Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin Season 2 Renewal Reversed by Peacock
Bumper’s time in Berlin has come to an unexpected end.
Despite its Season 2 renewal in January, Peacock canceled Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin.
Deadline exclusively reports that the musical comedy’s cancelation “stems from the length of the work stoppage due to the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, which have delayed production, creating large gaps between seasons and making shows miss their target release dates.”

That reasoning is becoming common amid the WGA (Writers Guild of America) and SAG-AFTRA’s strikes for a fair contract from the AMPTP (Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers).
Variety mentions the newfound pattern in recent cancelations in its report about Bumper in Berlin‘s untimely end.
Prime Video’s The Peripheral was the first series canceled with a similarly worded explanation, closely followed by A League of Their Own on the same streaming service.
A League of Their Own‘s co-creator, co-showrunner, executive producer, and star Abbi Jacobson wrote on Instagram in August 2022, “To blame this cancellation on the strike is bullshit and cowardly. But this post isn’t about all that. About all the ways this show has been put through the ringer. Not today.”

Bumper in Berlin, which sees Adam Devine reprise his role of Bumper Allen from the first two Pitch Perfect films, received a straight-to-series order from Peacock in September 2021.
“We’re so happy to have the opportunity to bring the beloved Universal Pictures franchise Pitch Perfect to the small screen and to explore the hilarious and distinct characters in this (musical-filled) world,” Erin Underhill, President Universal Television, said at the time.
“We’re lucky to partner with the talented Elizabeth Banks, Max Handelman, and Paul Brooks, who produced the iconic films; the exceptionally funny and memorable Adam Devine; and Megan Amram, whose clever adaptation of Pitch Perfect is sure to have audiences laughing out loud and tapping their feet,” Underhill added.
The comedy is set several years after Devine’s appearance in the film franchise. It follows Bumper’s move to Germany “ to revive his music career when one of his songs becomes big in Berlin,” per the series synopsis.

Created by executive producer and showrunner Megan Amram, Bumper in Berlin‘s seven-episode debut season streamed on Peacock in November 2022. Alongside Allen, the show stars Flula Borg, Sarah Hyland, Lera Abova, and Jameela Jami.
Despite the reversal of the show’s renewal, Deadline reports that “Pitch Perfect remains an important IP for Universal, and the company remains in business with the franchise’s Elizabeth Banks via more projects in development with her Brownstone banner and with series’ showrunner Megan Amram who continues to have an overall deal with Bumper in Berlin studio Universal Television.”
Banks, who produced and starred in all three films as Gail, executive produced Bumper in Berlin.
From Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, Max Handelman (Brownstone Productions), Paul Brooks and Scott Neimeyer (Gold Circle Films), and Adam Devine executive produced the show.
