Home Economics Canceled by ABC After Three Seasons
ABC just canceled one of its shows that has been in TV limbo for months.
Home Economics is not returning with a fourth season on ABC. Deadline reports the show’s cancelation as part of the network’s programming lineup changing upon the resolution of the Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike.
The ABC series aired for three seasons, with Home Economics Season 3 Episode 13, “Emergency Preparedness Kit, $129.99,” airing in January 2023. That Season 3 finale now serves as its series finale on the network.

Home Economics follows three siblings at varying stages of financial stability. They represent “one in the 1%, one middle-class and one barely holding on,” per its official description. The show’s comedy stems from their financial struggles (or lack of them) and their personal and familial problems.
The family sitcom stars Topher Grace, Caitlin McGee, Jimmy Tatro, Karla Souza, Sasheer Zamata, Shiloh Bearman, Jordyn Curet, Chloe Jo Rountree, and JeCobi Swain.
Series co-creators, showrunners, and executive producers Michael Colton and John Aboud told TVLine in January that they didn’t plan for the Season 3 finale to be the series finale. They hoped that the show would continue.
“We hope it’s a season finale. We’re optimistic. We know the network is very happy with the show. And we have a very devoted fan base. We’re just waiting for the right people to weigh in. It’s a process. But we’re planning to come back. We have a lot more stories to tell. We’re hopeful,” Colton said.

That momentum continued when TVLine exclusively reported that ABC extended the cast’s options in June 2023.
Aboud wrote on X about the show’s cancellation, “Will try for a more specific post later, but for now just a quick thank you to our hilarious cast, amazing crew, supportive execs, and lovely viewers. It was a joy to work on @HomeEconABC. @mikecolton and I will forever be grateful for the experience. #HomeEconomics.”
Since its finale, Home Economics has been on the bubble with a few other ABC series, including The Rookie spinoff series, The Rookie: Feds, and The Good Doctor spinoff series, The Good Lawyer.
Home Economics is one of many canceled shows by ABC. A few other series include Alaska Daily, Big Sky, The Company You Keep, and The Wonder Years reboot.
