Griselda Teaser Trailer and Premiere Date Revealed by Netflix

News

The Sofía Vergara limited series inspired by the life of Griselda Blanco is coming to Netflix in the new year.

Griselda premieres its six-episode season on the streaming service on Thursday, January 25, 2024, per TV Line

Set in Miami in the 1970s-80s, the drama series explores how “Blanco’s lethal blend of unsuspected savagery and charm helped her expertly navigate between business and family, leading her to become widely known as “the Godmother.”

Griselda‘s hour-long episodes “tells the story of a devoted mother who created one of the most profitable cartels in history,” per Netflix’s TUDUM.

The 50-second teaser trailer only gives a glimpse of Vergara in the leading role, with Griselda discussing the appeal of her product and the money it brings. The footage shows a room full of men who appear stunned that she could be in charge.

Fittingly, Vergara’s Griselda leads into the teaser trailer by asking, “You’ve thought about me a lot, haven’t you?” Netflix announced Griselda in November 2021, sharing that Vergara would star and executive produce.

Created by Eric Newman, Doug Miro, Ingrid Escajeda, and Carlo Bernard, Griselda reunites the team behind NARCOS and NARCOS: Mexico with Newman and Andrés Baiz, who directs every episode. Ingrid Escajeda is the series’ showrunner, writer, and executive producer.

“Griselda Blanco has long been a passion project for Sofia and we are grateful that she and her partners at LatinWe have chosen us to help her tell that story,” Eric Newman said in November 2021.

“Sofia is a brilliant talent and her passion combined with a fantastic story from Doug and Ingrid, and the amazing Andrés Baiz at the directing helm, means we have a very exciting series to share with audiences,” Newman added.

“Griselda Blanco was a larger-than-life character whose ruthless but ingenious tactics allowed her to rule a billion dollar empire years before many of the most notorious male kingpins we know so much about,” Sofía Vergara said in November 2021.

“We are thrilled to have found the perfect partners in Eric, Andrés, and Netflix to help us bring this story of her life to the screen,” Vergara added.

“Eric Newman has deftly brought to life among the most dynamic characters and stories on screen today. We’re excited to continue on this creative path with him and for this collaboration with Sofia Vergara — a force in entertainment and a world-beloved talent,” Peter Friedlander, Vice President, UCAN Scripted Series, Netflix, said.

“With an incredible team at the helm — we can’t wait for the world to see how Ingrid Escajeda, Doug Miro, and Andrés Baiz take on the twists and turns of Griselda Blanco’s epic story,” Friedlander added.

Griselda‘s cast also includes Alberto Guerra, Vanessa Ferlito, Martin Rodriguez, Alberto Ammann, Christian Tappan, Diego Trujillo, Paulina Dávila, Gabriel Sloyer, Juliana Aidén Martinez, and José Zúñiga.

Luis Balaguer with Latin World Entertainment, Eric Newman, Doug Miro, Andrés Baiz, and Carlo Bernard also executive produce.
