Our Flag Means Death Season 2 to Set Sail in October on Max
Ahoy! It’s time to set sail with everyone’s favorite queer pirates once more!
Our Flag Means Death Season 2 is right around the corner for fans anxiously anticipating the show’s return since its renewal in June 2022.
Vanity Fair has been given exclusive first-look privileges for the show’s highly-anticipated second outing, providing insight into what fans can expect regarding the story for this season directly from the cast members themselves.

TV Line states that Our Flag Means Death Season 2 will stream on Max in October. Also, the source has confirmed more casting news for this season.
Season 1’s principal cast — Rhys Darby (Stede), Taika Waititi (Ed), Matthew Maher (Black Pete), Vico Ortiz (Jim), Samson Kayo (Oluwande), Joel Fry (Frenchie), Kristian Nairn (Wee John), Samba Schutte (Roach), and Con O’Neill (Izzy) — will return for more excitement at sea.
Vanity Fair reports that two Kiwi actors, Madeleine Sami (Deadloch) and Samoan-born Anapela Polataivao, are new to Our Flag Means Death Season 2.
Minnie Driver will join the cast as Anne Bonny, and Ruibo Qian joins as a merchant named Susan with many secrets.

Our Flag Means Death Season 1 ended with Ed going by Blackbeard again after abandoning Stede’s crew on an island, and Stede arrives at the island to be reunited with his team.
“What I love about this show is it does allow itself to swing between the two. We’re almost operatic in our darkness at times, and then we swing back to the sweetness of the simplicity of the love of our two guys. It’s been challenging just to get the tone right,” Con O’Neill told Vanity Fair.
During Season 1, Our Flag Means Death introduced Ed and Stede’s love story. As with a few other characters, love is a theme that carries through into Season 2 with some added drama — as only pirates know how to do.
Season 2 will introduce some Chinese merchants and female pirates to give even more flair and representation, which Our Flag Means Death already makes waves with in its debut season.

Additionally, Ortiz provided some insights into Jim’s Season 2 journey to Vanity Fair.
“They’re a bit more chatty and a bit more conversational…. Most of the first season, you see Jim in disguise, hiding, but in this one, you see them a bit more [thinking,] Oh, this is my chosen family, and I feel good. There’s a bit more zaniness and a bit more softness,” Ortiz said.
Having filmed Our Flag Means Death Season 2 in New Zealand, the stories and sets will reflect that change as the possibilities are expanded within a new setting.
Taika Waititi executive produces Our Flag Means Death alongside creator-showrunner David Jenkins, Garrett Basch, and Dan Halsted.
