Preview — Raylan Givens’ Unexpected Return in Justified: City Primeval
When the original FX drama Justified concluded its initial six-season run back in 2015, most of us assumed that we’d seen the last of Timothy Olyphant’s Deputy U.S. Marshall Raylan Givens.
But even the most cynical of TV fans can be wrong sometimes, and such is the case with spin-off Justified: City Primeval which reunites Olyphant with series creator Graham Yoast and sends Givens to a new city with a whole new case.

Based on Elmore Leonard’s novel City Primeval: High Noon in Detroit — the original Justified drew inspiration from his novella Fire in the Hole — the City Primeval spin-off will catch up with Givens fifteen years later in Miami, before following him to Detroit where he becomes involved with the case of someone known as the Oklahoma Wildman.
While it’s unlikely (though not impossible) we’ll be seeing any familiar characters from the original series — miss you Walton Goggins! — a bunch of new faces will star alongside Olyphant, including Boyd Holbrook, Aunjanue Ellis, Adelaide Clemens, Vondie Curtis Hall, Norbert Leo Butz, Victor Williams, Marin Ireland, and Vivian Olyphant, the star’s real-life daughter.

Series description: Having left the hollers of Kentucky 15 years ago, Raylan Givens (Timothy Olyphant) now lives in Miami, a walking anachronism balancing his life as a U.S. Marshal and part-time father of a 15-year-old girl. His hair is grayer, his hat is dirtier, and the road in front of him is suddenly a lot shorter than the road behind.
A chance encounter on a desolate Florida highway sends him to Detroit. There he crosses paths with Clement Mansell (Boyd Holbrook), aka The Oklahoma Wildman, a violent, sociopathic desperado who’s already slipped through the fingers of Detroit’s finest once and aims to do so again. Mansell’s lawyer, formidable Motor City native Carolyn Wilder (Aunjanue Ellis), has every intention of representing her client, even as she finds herself caught in between cop and criminal, with her own game afoot as well. These three characters set out on a collision course in classic Elmore Leonard fashion, to see who makes it out of the City Primeval alive.
