Hijack Season 1 Episode 6 Review: Comply Slowly
This piece was written during the 2023 WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Without the labor of the writers and actors currently on strike, Hijack, being covered here, wouldn’t exist.
Hijack Season 1 Episode 6, “Comply Slowly,” is a decent penultimate episode where the tension continues to build up until the credits roll.
The first half of the episode is on the slower side, making you wonder if anything will happen that will have you invested in the conclusion of this series. Thankfully, Hijack reminds us all that one thing it excels at is creating those edge-of-your-seat moments.

The rest of the series has its issues, but you can’t deny that tension and suspense are used masterfully throughout the episodes.
The twist of a new hijacker is nicely done. It’s completely unexpected, and ending on her reveal as she kills the pilot and takes over the cockpit is a fantastic cliffhanger that will keep us thinking about what’s going to happen next on Hijack Season 1 Episode 7, “Brace Brace Brace.”
Hopefully, we’ll get answers on her role in this hijacking– was she always meant to take over the cockpit in the final hour of the journey, or was she a failsafe if something went wrong. What’s your theory?
Outside of the last portion of the episode where the passengers start to fight back, the rest isn’t anything special. It’s fine and by far not the worst episode of the series so far, but there’s still a lot of room for improvement.

The scenes on the ground continue to be a disappointment.
As I touched on during my review of Hijack Season 1 Episode 5, “Less Than an Hour,” the show fails to utilize those scenes to their full potential. The majority of the time, we simply watch all the political figureheads and investigators argue amongst themselves in a room.
These scenes aren’t the most engaging. The only new information we get out of them is that Edgar is the one calling the shots on the hijacking, and we witness the brutality he’s willing to unleash on innocent people.
The development of the hijacking being reported to the news is confusing.
It doesn’t seem like the hijackers’ organization is doing this to make money via insider trading (like the journalist Felix is known to do), but there aren’t any other motives suggested.

In an ideal situation, this is when we’d learn that the hijackers had a specific reason for targeting this plane/company. Then, their reasoning for hijacking a plane instead of committing any other violent act to get two people out of prison would make sense. But, Hijack hasn’t done a good job of fully fleshing out the hijacker’s organization, so expectations are low here.
With one episode to go, there are still so many unanswered questions. It doesn’t seem as if the passengers regaining control of the plane is an option, but the investigators on the ground don’t appear to have a plan for what to do when the plane lands either.
Here’s hoping Hijack can deliver at least an entertaining finale if nothing else.
Stray Thoughts
- I forgot a passenger had already died.
- Sam’s son is brave. I would not have ventured downstairs.
- It’s a little strange we don’t see Edgar communicating at all with the hitmen in Sam’s house.
