We’ve reached the penultimate episode of Abbott Elementary Season 2 with Abbott Elementary Season 2 Episode 21, “Mom,” and it’s a big one. On the episode, Taraji P. Henson makes her debut as Janine’s mom.
Although this is the first time viewers will meet Janine’s mom, her presence has loomed large throughout the series, and know a lot about her already.

From Janine’s stories and references about her mom, we know she was an absent and irresponsible parent. We also know that Janine’s relationship with her mom is complicated, with lots of conflicted feelings.
Will her work mom step in again to be a source of comfort for Janine during her real mom’s visit? Or, perhaps this will be Gregory’s time to shine and be the support she needs?

Episode description: Janine’s plan for a Memorial Day weekend solo trip is derailed when her mother shows up unannounced asking for help. Elsewhere, Gregory notices his colleagues are great at small talk and realizes he needs to brush up on his people skills.
