American Born Chinese Trailer Released by Disney+
Jin Wang’s life is forever changed when he meets Wei-Chen, the son of a mythological god, in the trailer for Disney+’s American Born Chinese.
The trailer for the upcoming series that premieres next month debuted on Good Morning America.
Based on Gene Luen Yang’s 2006 graphic novel, American Born Chinese “is the story of a young man’s battle for his own identity, told through family, comedy, and action-packed Kung-Fu,” per Disney+’s synopsis.

Ben Wang’s Jin wants “to be a regular guy who does regular stuff,” but that quickly becomes less likely when Jim Liu’s Wei-Chen asks for Jin’s help “to stop the uprising” because “a gate between Heaven and Earth is opening.”
As Jin wonders how he fits in this quest, Wei-Chen tells his new friend that Jin is his “guide.”
As Entertainment Weekly reports, American Born Chinese‘s trailer features several gods from Chinese mythology. Daniel Wu portrays Sun Wukong, the Monkey King, and Academy Award Winner Michelle Yeoh stars as Guanyin, the goddess of mercy.
Entertainment Weekly shares that American Born Chinese‘s “showrunner Kelvin Yu and his team expanded Yang’s story, adding characters like Guanyin to the mythological melange.”

The YA series features an Everything Everywhere All At Once reunion as Academy Award nominee Stephanie Hsu and Academy Award winner Ke Huy Quan also star. The latter portrays Freddy Wong.
The Disney+ series is directed by Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings‘ director Destin Daniel Cretton. Both Yu and Cretton serve as executive producers. Gene Luen Yang is also an executive producer.
American Born Chinese‘s cast also includes Yeo Yann Yann as Christine Wang, Chin Han as Simon Wang, and Sydney Taylor as Amelia.
