9-1-1 Season 6 Episode 12 Review: Recovery
The man of the hour this week is Peter Krause’s Bobby Nash!
On 9-1-1 Season 6 Episode 12, “Recovery,” Bobby’s history of addiction and relationship with his sponsor is the main focus, with a secondary plot of Buck navigating life while recovering from being struck by lightning.
Bobby has faced a lot of loss, especially with the sudden death of his sponsor, and the show never shies away from the harsh realities of his story. His journey is one of grief, healing, and beginning again; the episode stays true to this.

Bobby works with Athena, May, and Tamara to find the truth behind this rehab facility and uncover them. Krause skillfully plays Bobby through his desperate need to find these answers and the highs and lows of uncovering more information.
The episode opens and closes with a parallel showing Bobby’s recovery progress.
The loss of Wendall is hard for Bobby, and learning the tragic details only makes it that much more difficult. However, he chooses to take Wendall’s memory and use it to help others.

During the opening scene, Bobby meets Wendall at an AA meeting that Buck and Hen forced him to attend after relapsing in Season 1.
The show matches the interaction at the end of the episode, with Bobby taking the role Wendall held for him and supporting someone else in need.
Parallels like these are a staple of the show and are beautiful to see. However, the storytelling of 9-1-1 and the depth of its characters make it stand out from the rest.
Speaking of parallels, Buck spends the episode trying to convince Maddie that he’s doing okay after the lightning strike when it’s clear he’s not. The callbacks throughout this are interesting and help drive the story.

The sibling relationship between Buck and Maddie is an essential dynamic in the show, and the episode reminds us of that. Maddie’s love and care for Buck shine as she tries to support him through it all.
With all of this, it is Eddie that Buck truly opens up to first, though.
The scenes with the pair show how Eddie understands what Buck needs and can be there for him. It’s reminiscent of Eddie telling Buck on 9-1-1 Season 5 Episode 4, “Home and Away,” that Chimney understands Maddie in a way that Buck doesn’t.

In the end, Buck seems to be in a better place with it all but still working through it. However, he does open up to Maddie, and she also shares that her attempts came from her struggles in Season 5.
Overall, the episode dives into several characters’ previous traumas and does an excellent job with the varying angles of it.
