News

Grease is still the word at Rydell High in the first trailer for Paramount+‘s Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies.

Drew Barrymore and her co-host Ross Matthews debuted the official trailer on The Drew Barrymore Show during its “Drew’s News” segment. The announcement includes a special appearance by four of the Pink Ladies: Marisa Davila, Cheyenne Isabel Wells, Ari Notartomaso, and Tricia Fukuhara.

Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies‘ 10-episode season premieres on Thursday, April 6, on Paramount+ in the U.S. and Canada and the following day in the U.K., Australia, Latin America, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, France, and South Korea. Paramount+ announced the premiere date with a teaser trailer during Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies‘ panel at Paramount+‘s presentation at the Television Critics Association in January.

Per its logline, Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies follows “four fed-up outcasts” who “dare to have fun on their own terms, sparking a moral panic that will change Rydell High forever.” Annabel Oakes writes and executive produces while serving as showrunner and director.

The musical series that tells the Pink Ladies’ origin story is set in 1954 — four years before the original Grease film. Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies takes place “before rock ‘n’ roll ruled” and “before the T-Birds were the coolest in the school.”

The trailer sets the vibrant scene and teases (at least) one classic favorite — “Grease (Is the Word).” Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies also sees Ari Notartomaso’s Cynthia Zdunowski challenge the status quo by wanting to become a T-Bird.

Moreover, the new footage sees Cynthia, Marisa Davila’s Jane, Cheyenne Isabel Wells’s Olivia, and Tricia Fukuhara’s Nancy band together through the Pink Lady pledge with the unforgettable jackets to boot.

The Paramount+ series also stars Shanel Bailey as Hazel, Madison Thompson as Susan, Johnathan Nieves as Richie, Jason Schmidt as Buddy, Maxwell Whittington-Cooper as Wally, and Jackie Hoffman as Asst. Principal McGee.

Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey executive produce for Temple Hill. Adam Fishbach also executive produces. Alethea Jones, who also serves as an executive producer, directed the pilot and two other episodes and executive produces. Erik Feig and Samie Kim Falvey executive produce via PICTURESTART.

Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies is produced by Grace Gilroy. The series features choreography by Jamal Sims, who also directed, and music by GRAMMY Award nominee and executive music producer Justin Tranter.
