The task force could be put to bed if they don’t prove themselves to be valuable enough to the NYPD. This is why on Law & Order: Organized Crime Season 3 Episode 9, “Last Christmas” the team is on high alert and determined to finish out the Silas case.
When the meeting with Robert Silas goes sideways they all realize their team could truly be at stake. Their lives and their jobs could end with this one encounter so everything is on the line.

With danger closing in, Bell and Stabler put aside their current disagreement and make some hard decisions. Their choices aren’t exactly “by the book” but they will keep everyone safe and the team together.
