Let the Right One In Season 1 Episode 6 Review: Stargazers

Let The Right One In, Reviews

Let the Right One In Season 1 Episode 6, “Stargazers,” takes a step back from the dramatics and issues at play to provide vital background information and an entertaining outing.

Unlike past episodes dealing with murder, drugs, and keeping Eleanor secluded, “Stargazers” embraces the simplicity and magical aspects of birthdays. Most of the episode is spent around Eleanor, Mark, Naomi, and Isaiah as they all spend quality time with one another, garnering deeper relationships.

Additionally, we get an update on Claire’s progress toward curing Peter, but there’s a twist. Whether it be the cynicism of Matthew rubbing off on her or the pressure of finding a cure quickly, something in Claire changes.

A Birthday for the History Books

One delightful aspect of “Stargazers” is the time spent focusing on Eleanor and Isaiah’s relationship. We last saw the two holding one another after Isaiah revealed his father’s death, indicating that whatever feelings he had towards Eleanor’s vampirism went out the window.

The only downside of this episode is that there’s no scene with Eleanor and Isaiah discussing the fact. The only time there’s any mention of it is toward the end of the episode when Isaiah asks Eleanor to be with him. He casually mentions that his birthday wish was either for a cure for her or for him to be a vampire so they can be together forever.

Eleanor does not take Isaiah’s statement about vampirism well, firmly pointing out that he doesn’t know what he’s talking about. It’s a crucial moment I hope we see further explored later in the series.

It feels off for there not to be a least one scene where Isaiah sits and grills Eleanor about everything she can do.

Besides that, their bond is one of the main highlights of the episode. Especially when the two hit the carnival together, using Eleanor’s strength to win prizes and genuinely enjoy themselves.

Will They, or Won’t They?

Mark and Naomi’s flirtatious back-and-forth’s have become a natural thing to look forward to, but it’s taken to the next level on this episode.

After taking the time to create Isaiah a homemade magician’s birthday cake, accompanying them to the carnival, and glowing in Naomi’s presence as she sings to Isaiah, Mark is officially smitten.

Logistically, I know that the two being together would never work, but all season long, I’ve lowkey hoped that something would happen between them, and it finally has! Their kiss in the hallway might be brief, but it’s enough to garner a scream of excitement from me.

However, while I want nothing more than for the two to end up with one another, it isn’t very likely. After all, how far can the relationship go with a secret like Mark’s?

Naomi may exclaim that she doubts they’ll ever find Frank’s killer, but with the recovered NA chip, she’s one step closer to figuring out the truth. Mark needs to be more careful than he’s ever been, which is why it’s also hard to determine if he made a move out of attraction or if it was a move to distract Naomi.

While I know some part of Mark does care for Naomi, I’m more inclined to believe that he does it as a distraction. If Naomi starts falling for Mark, she’ll be so distracted and unable to think clearly that she may overlook the signs of him being the killer.

It’ll be interesting to see how the storyline progresses, especially since next week will be a throwback episode, and we’re nearing the end.

One Step Closer to a Cure

Claire’s progression toward a cure is thrilling for several reasons. Isolating the gene that enhances aging for Peter is a monumental step in her goals and leaves room for hope in the grander scheme.

She’s proven to be more effective as a scientist than her father ever was, and it’s admirable. It’s also lovely to see her stick up for herself to Peter and put her foot down. While he may have reservations about the process in which she’s figuring out the cure, he needs to acknowledge how she’s put her entire life on pause to help him.

With Claire’s discovery of reversing the aging gene in vampires, I hope we’ll get to see it shared with Eleanor. Especially since most signs point towards Peter being the vampire who turned her.

“Stargazers” is a nice change of pace for the series, and I hope we get at least one more episode like this before the end of the season. It’s nice when we get moments to take a step back and enjoy the simple things.

I look forward to learning the truth about what happened to Elizabeth on next week’s episode.

Stray Thoughts:

  • Who was the vampire that posed as a worker to get Peter’s address, and what was he after? Could Arthur have had Peter bit on purpose? Or could his turning have been retaliation in response to something Arthur was mixed in with?
  • I don’t particularly appreciate that we’re slowly seeing a demoralization in Claire, resulting in her becoming like her father more and more with each passing episode.
  • I’m not looking forward to the aftermath once Naomi figures out Mark is Frank’s killer. Or when Eleanor realizes that Isaiah’s father died so she could feed.
