New Amsterdam Season 5 Episode 3, “Big Day,” is going to be… something.
If it isn’t bad enough that the heart of this show is still gone, the powers that be seem committed to giving us unbelievable character choices and baffling stories.

It looks like there is more Elizabeth and Max content in store, regardless of whether this was asked for. Hopefully, both of them will be given at least a semblance of character development.
From the photos, it appears that the show is trying desperately to get everyone back together, to re-create the camaraderie that this series was always known for. It might be a comforting call-back.
Dr. Walsh is going to make an appearance, which is always delightful. Hopefully, he’ll be given more than just a short time on-screen. He is one of the show’s strongest secondary characters.
Finally, the big medical storyline will be an explosion at a wedding. New Amsterdam has had a checkered history with big mass casualty events. It’s frankly never been that kind of show. There will surely be no shortage of chaos.
Whatever this episode holds, it can only be an improvement upon the season so far.

Episode description: An explosion at a wedding ceremony sends a stream of injured partygoers into New Amsterdam; Max and Wilder scramble to find a rare blood type to save the groom; in helping a girl out of a catatonic state, Iggy learns the truth about the wedding.
