There was a two-year gap between the release of Derry Girls Season 2 and the upcoming final season, with filming and production heavily disrupted. However, fans are eager to return to Derry to watch the chaotic dark comedy once more.

The show takes place in Derry (sometimes known as Londonderry), Northern Ireland, in the 1990s during a turbulent era of political violence known as The Troubles. Derry Girls depicts the strife and divides of The Troubles through the lens of teenagers. It’s a dark comedy that covers the tense contextual situation with humor and classic coming-of-age tropes.

The girl group, known as the titular “Derry Girls,” attend a Catholic secondary school, where they try to find themselves in a strict environment run by nuns. Saoirse-Monica Jackson plays protagonist Erin, Nicola Coughlan of Bridgerton fame plays “goodie-too-shoes” Clare, Jamie-Lee O’Donnell plays rebellious Michelle, Dylan Llewellyn plays Michelle’s British cousin James, and Louisa Harland plays the awkward Orla.

The same cast returns for Derry Girls Season 3, yet the final season will have some guest appearances, including a surprise cameo from Liam Neeson.

The trailer shows the girls entering their final year at Our Lady Immaculate Secondary School, where they stress over their exams and what comes next. The Troubles are finally ending, yet the “Derry Girls” continue to cause trouble about town.

Derry Girls Season 3 includes six episodes, each running around 30 minutes. All episodes of the season will be available to watch on Netflix starting October 7th.
