Los Espookys Season 2 Episode 6 Review: El Eclipse (The Eclipse)

Los Espookys, Reviews

Election Day is here, and all of the threads are coming together on Los Espookys Season 2 Episode 6, “El Eclipse (The Eclipse),” in a finale that does a fantastic job with the payoff of more than a few bits and planting new potential stories for Season 3.

With the Election looming over the country, Los Espookys are not leaving things to chance and working on how to get Alcaldeza Teresa elected President. With a surprising assist from an unusual place, a wild plan may be the key to getting that win.

While Melanie is dealing with the bitter realization that her dream assignment will never happen, she decides to help the team with their plan to distract everyone from Teresa’s rally speech by staging an eclipse.

It is wild to me that this whole season has led up to this moment. An election pitting a misogynistic leader against someone who has no qualifications aside from running a small seaside town whose most significant claim is having a sea monster as the main attraction. A sea monster that was entirely manufactured by Los Espookys at that.

It feeds perfectly into the absurd world the show has built while also not entirely out of the realm of reality, considering the last few decades.

Is this growth we’re seeing with Andres as he gives up his prized earring to the moon for his friends? It is!

Andres dramatically reflecting on the situation while predictably missing the point is hilarious and leads to some very great solid introspection and growth for him. Having Andres return to the team and offer his help is the sweetest scene, surrounded by the most bizarre situation.

Having Andres give up his earring and have it play into the episode’s main thrust feels like a perfect payoff considering what we know about the meaning behind that earring courtesy of Andres’ story earlier.

But that’s not the only payoff we get in the finale!

Isabella Rossellini makes a surprising guest appearance as herself in what is a hilarious payoff of one of Sonia’s get-rich-quick (ish) schemes. Who would have thought that Sonia’s buying up domains with celebrity names would work for her?

From the Tweety Bird to the tube top and the ridiculous way they made the eclipse happen, making it all work is remarkable and shouldn’t have ever been doubted, given the things we’ve seen on this show.

What is surprising is the fact that Karina is not only alive (though dealing with some potential trauma from the drugging and abduction) but also still with the President and just trying to get more quality time with him.

While Andres learned to be selfless, Renaldo learned to advocate for himself more. The moment he stands up against Sonia is hilarious and carries its own level of unhinged as Sonia walks out of the room but not before leaving her mark on it.

Overall, Los Espookys sticks the landing once again, potentially promising more answers. The payoffs were significant, there was never a dull moment throughout the season, and we even see growth for the crew.

One of the questions we get answered next season is: What is inside Tati’s purse, and what does that little world look like?

Random Thoughts

  • Sonia’s Scorpio Season cold open is a perfect encapsulation of her essence.
  • Tico finding a Tati edition of The Old Man and The Sea wash up on the beach was a moment that, much like Sonia’s and Andres’s moments, really feels simply perfect.
