Chicago P.D. Season 10 Episode 5 Review: Pink Cloud
It looks like Chicago P.D. Season 10 Episode 5, “Pink Cloud,” is repeating history. Not too many seasons ago, Samantha Miller’s son was involved in a case. This time around, Chief O’Neal’s son seems to be a little too close to the case.
Although it seems like Hailey is losing her mind with a week straight of OT, depicted by the messy hair that sticks around for the entire episode, she hasn’t lost track of what is important: the victims.
As much as Chief O’Neal tries to question her tactics and sanity, Upton proves she is up to the task and ready to kick ass when needed.

Chicago P.D. Season 9 started this trend in which we mostly saw the Intelligence Unit in teams. Three people working together here while a couple works over there.
Although the dynamics were interesting, it also lost the sense of belonging to a team that attracted viewers to the unit in the first place. We miss watching them investigate together and having each other’s back in the field.
Lucky for us, “Pink Cloud” brings back that feeling as we watch everyone in the unit investigate the case and step out of the squad room. Adam was a bit lacking, but the companionship of the rest makes up for it.
Instead of watching Upton on her own the entire episode, Kim sticks by her side and reminds her why she will never be alone even with her husband gone.
Torres’s close involvement on the case proves that after Chicago P.D. Season 10 Episode 4, “Dónde Vives,” he is officially part of the family.

At the beginning of the episode, Chicago P.D. reminds us Halstead is gone by showing his empty desk. A sad, punch-to-the-heart moment.
But what scares us the most is Hailey’s behavior. It looks like she is about to lose control and snap.
She does OT for a week — even against Trudy’s advice — and her hair, which is typically in a tidy ponytail, looks like a mess. Physical hints to the internal struggle she is going through.
OT is obviously a distraction to avoid the empty apartment that is waiting for her. Diving into the case is the only way in which she can stay afloat.
Chief O’Neal son tells her “pain always finds you” and it strikes a nerve because Hailey knows (we all know) that she cannot avoid her reality much longer.
However, as much as we think this is going to come back to bite her, Hailey does some of the best detective work we’ve seen her do since she joined the team.

We must applaud the girl who played the victim on “Pink Cloud” because she does an amazing job. When she tells Hailey to run, we all want to run.
But her best work is done right before she dies. The moment Hailey mentions Sean O’Neal, the girl looks down, stops looking at the detective, and jumps from the rooftop. We know, and so does Hailey, what is going on.
Sean’s involvement with the case is a little much. The moment Hailey presents the case to Voight, we can start putting the pieces of the puzzle together and realize him being the bad guy has been in front of us the whole time.
Now Voight has to make a choice. Does he trust one of his best detectives or does he side with the only chief in Chicago P.D. history that has turned a blind eye to his methods?
Obviously, this case is just beginning, and “Pink Cloud” is the first step into what promises to be an amazing storyline. Hopefully, it is explored further and we get to see more of Sean and Chief O’Neal.

Stray Observations
- It is always nice to see how much Trudy cares about the Intelligence Unit and how she is always willing to help — even if that means offering a form of escapism in times of pain.
- Watching Kim and Hailey partner up during the episode is a treat. The two of them are amazing out in the field and know exactly how to cover each other’s backs.
- In the beginning of the episode, Kim and Adam are talking about Makayla and it brings peace to the shippers knowing the two of them are still together, parenting the little girl.
- Torres added a blue jacket to his unofficial uniform. What else will he surprise us with next? The white t-shirt doesn’t seem winter appropriate, so I’m excited to see what happens with his outfit in the following episodes.
