The Conners Season 5 Episode 1 Review: Double Honeymoon and Seeing Double

Reviews, The Conners

The laughs are aplenty with our Conner family vacations. On The Conners Season 5 Episode 1, “Double Honeymoon and Seeing Double,” the family finds new bonds through conflict.

I’m not sure which family outing was more entertaining to witness, but I’m sure glad we are given both. It’s nice to break away from Lanford from time to time.

It shows that the Conner clan is still them even when faced with completely different environments.

While the petty fighting between Jackie and Darlene is disconcerting there is also a level of humor that wouldn’t be The Conners without. Sure, we hate when anyone in the family is against another member, but something about Jackie’s jabs gives us hope that she’s simply working through a moment.

It’s good to see that Jackie is genuinely happy for the first time in a really long time. Even if she and Neville are a quirky couple I will never begrudge her for finding her joy.

And despite what Darlene and Ben may say to them, it’s undeniable that they love Neville and Jackie with all their hearts. After all, there is that saying that we jab the deepest at the ones we love the most.

That sentiment comes full circle by the end when Darlene and Jackie sit down and have it out. In true Conner style, they both admit they are happy to be in loving, healthy relationships.

Now that they are both married and stable it’s going to be interesting to see how much further they can grow this season.

That’s not to say the honeymoon cabin scenes weren’t hysterical to witness. The way that Neville is just so smitten with Jackie and how completely opposite the two couples are is honestly the best humor we could ask for.

On the flip side of things, Harris stopped being the spoiled brat that she always is long enough to really be there for Mark. It’s something we have never gotten to see before with the siblings.

Honestly, it’s a nice breath of fresh air.

What’s even better is Harris steps in as this more mature version of herself in order to ensure Mark isn’t drinking alone. She could’ve walked away from him lamenting about his ex having a new relationship, but instead, she chooses to sit with him and help him through it.

Harris has been there so she knows exactly what Mark’s broken heart needs. Some angsty Morrissey and alcohol (though she probably could’ve held off on the second one).

We all know that switch flip between you and a sibling when your ages no longer seem to put you in separate worlds. Mark and Harris are now on equal playing fields and it’s something they are definitely going to grow into over the course of this season.

I know Becky was angry that Darlene didn’t punish them for drinking, but Darlene is right. They already know they shouldn’t have done it and at least Mark had Harris there to keep him safe.

The best part is definitely when Harris and Mark remain a united front even in the face of punishment. Harris helping Mark “social media” prove he’s happy is honestly something I never thought I’d see with them.
