Constantine Reboot Series Not Moving Forward at HBO Max
Constantine won’t receive a resurrection via an HBO Max reboot series any time soon.
TV Line reported that the streaming service would not move forward with its series from J.J. Abrams centered around the DC Comics character.

News about the series circulated early last year with Guy Bolton attached to write.
According to initial reports, like one from Variety, the reboot would “follow a younger version of the character and focus more on the horror elements of the comics rather than the religious ones.”
Now Warner Bros has its sights set on another installment of the Constantine films, in which Keanu Reeves played the first live-action iteration of the character in 2005. Abrams will serve as an executive producer on the film.
Per Variety‘s sources, “the streamer had been in early talks with an actor for the lead role before the new movie came together. Four scripts were written for the new adaptation set in contemporary London.”

The disappointing news about the reboot series also extends to a standalone series about DC Comics’ Madame Xanadu, which HBO Max has also scrapped.
Like the Constantine reboot, the Madame Xanadu standalone comes from Abrams’ Waner Bros.-based Bad Robot production company.
Both series will be shopped for a new home.
Nevertheless, the Constantine reboot would not have been the first time the character appeared on the small screen. Matt Ryan brought Constantine to life on the 2014 NBC series named after the titular character.

The CW revived Ryan’s iteration when he joined DC’s Legends of Tomorrow. But, as previously reported, the show was one of many recent cancellations by the network.
The character’s most recent (and third) live-action iteration comes from Jenna Coleman as Johanna Constantine on Netflix’s The Sandman.
So while the Constantine reboot is not moving forward at HBO Max, this character’s presence in popular media remains immortal.
