The ‘Orphan Black’ Universe Expands with Krysten Ritter in Starring Role
“You’re damn right.”
The world of Orphan Black will be returning to our screens with a spin-off series, Orphan Black: Echoes, and AMC Networks has cast their lead!
Krysten Ritter is set to star as Lucy in the off-shoot of the popular sci-fi thriller, a woman with a dark past described as “an unimaginable origin story.”
Orphan Black: Echoes takes place in the near future and follows Lucy along with a group of women on their harrowing journey of self-discovery. It will be a new story within the Orphan Black universe that deals with the manipulation of human existence.
Whether that means cloning like on the original show, we will have to wait and see.

It also remains to be seen if Ritter will be playing multiple roles as Tatiana Maslany did for five seasons of Orphan Black. During the series run, Maslany inhabited 17 of the 276 total Leda clones (some just in photos) across 50 episodes.
Ritter’s varied resume shows she is up to the task if Echoes does call for it. Along with being the eponymous superhero in Marvel’s Jessica Jones, she had a memorable appearance on Breaking Bad, another series from AMC Networks.
The Don’t Trust the B—- in Apartment 23 star (Ritter played the titular B—-) will also be executive producing the new series, joining Anna Fishko, Echoes creator and showrunner, and co-creator of the original show, John Fawcett, who will direct as well.

The Orphan Black: Echoes star is keeping busy. Ritter can be seen in the upcoming HBO limited series, Love and Death, based on the true crime murder of Betty Gore in 1980, set to stream later this year.
Orphan Black: Echoes is slated to premiere in 2023 on AMC+.
