Roswell, New Mexico Season 4 Episode 7 Review: Dig Me Out
Maria spends Roswell, New Mexico Season 4 Episode 7, “Dig Me Out,” thinking that her mother is trying to contact her, but she eventually realizes that Alex is one sending her psychic messages, resulting in the season’s strongest cliffhanger.
After five episodes of silence, Liz and Maria’s haunting realization that their friend is in danger is such a rewarding, and incredibly acted, moment.

While we all hoped Michael would be the first one to realize what is happening, I love that it is Liz and Maria, two people who grew up with Alex and share meaningful connections with him.
Maria is a psychic and pays attention to weird happenings around her, so it makes sense that she is the person he tries to connect with.
Liz and Maria discovering this first allow his disappearance to impact more relationships than just his romantic one, where most of his storylines have existed for the entirety of the show.
It brings the whole cast of characters together to honor their friend, improving on his Season 2 disappearance, as the only character involved in that plot line was Michael.
Roswell, New Mexico struggles to give its friendships enough focus because of how cosmic the romances are. This storyline is the perfect opportunity to touch on those bonds as the primary focus inevitably shifts to Michael’s reaction to this gut-wrenching news.
Alex has gotten the shaft these last two seasons, so I am extremely excited at the prospect of a whole episode dedicated to finding him.

“Dig Me Out” also fleshes out Dallas’s family history, connecting the dots back to Jones and opening up the past.
I love that Isobel and Dallas go on this journey together. It is essential to focus on different aspects of the triad as the show brings Dallas in as an integral part of the group, and his dynamic with Isobel is a lot of fun.
Plus, Quentin Plair is such a talented actor, so it never hurts to spend more time on Dallas.
One of the main worries of the pod squad has always been their connections to their parents, so it is lovely to see how much Theo wants to protect his son from Jones. These aliens deserve to know, and to see, that they are immensely loved.
However, I will admit that I’m a bit confused about the timeline here, and how it connects to the flashbacks with Tripp, Nora, and Louise from Roswell, New Mexico Season 2.

Another important thread woven throughout “Dig Me Out” is Max’s impulsivity issues.
As the episode opens with an explosive fight between him and Liz, it’s a relief to watch Liz fight back against his poor decision-making and stand up for herself.
Max has always been a bit of a loose cannon, making rash decisions instead of stopping to think about the consequences of his actions. He wants to do the right thing, but that doesn’t always mean his behavior reflects that.
If Liz and Max are ever going to have a future together, they need to deal with these issues and grow from them together. Their relationship is plagued by an unhealthy cycle of making excuses for each other instead of addressing their mistakes.
However, when it comes to Liz’s storyline, I wish she could focus more on Rosa for a minute.
After waiting all season to see what Rosa has been up to, we barely see her new life. The brief glimpses of Rosa’s New York life that we get show how much she is thriving, so I hope Roswell, New Mexico continues to show these new sides of her.

“Dig Me Out” finally drops the bomb that has been quietly simmering below the surface all season, entering the second half of the final season with high energy and real stakes.
Roswell, New Mexico has the chance to tell a really beautiful story about love and family as the show finishes out, and I am thrilled to ride it out until the very end.
Stray Thoughts
- The special effects on this science fiction show are embarrassingly awful.
- I want to hangout with Rosa and her friends in Soho.
- Isobel’s reaction to shirtless Dallas is very relatable. Lily Cowles is so funny in this role.
- Alex’s “ding ding ding” is perfect. I love how sassy he is, even as a ghost.
- Michael’s journey throughout this whole series regarding home is really well done. He is finally going to accept that it has always been there in the people around him.
- Dallas found Alex’s engagement necklace!
- Clyde is so boring, and I can’t find the energy to care about this many new people during the final season. Bonnie is sweet, but she is hogging screen time that should focus on other dynamics.
- The map to Oasis hiding in the guitar case is a pretty loud metaphor, which this show loves with Michael and Alex.
