‘Conversations with Friends’ Extended Trailer and Premiere Date Released by Hulu

Conversation with Friends, the long-awaited TV adaptation of the best-selling novel with the same title, is coming to Hulu on May 15.

After previewing a teaser trailer in February, the streaming service released an extended trailer. The 12-episode series will follow four characters in their trials of love and friendship. All episodes will drop at once on Hulu.

Additionally, the series will air simultaneously on BBC 3 and BBC iPlayer in the UK.

Irish millennial author Sally Rooney published her debut novel Conversations with Friends in 2017, followed by the wildly popular Normal People in 2018. 

Hulu adapted Normal People into a TV series in 2020 starring Daisy Edgar-Jones and Paul Mescal.

The intimate and thought-provoking show drew critical acclaim, featuring a coming-of-age love story between two high schoolers who move from a small town to Dublin to attend university. 

The new Sally Rooney adaption stars Joe Alwyn, Sasha Lane, and Jemima Kirke. Newcomer Alison Oliver stars as the series’ protagonist Frances. 

In partnership with the BBC, Hulu released the extended trailer for the upcoming show, hinting at tense romantic dynamics when two best friends get involved with an older married couple.

Frances is a 21-year old college student at Trinity College, Dublin, who performs spoken word poetry with her best friend and former girlfriend Bobby. The two meet Nick and Melissa, who bring them into their social circles.

The trailer also features a new original song from indy-pop singer Phoebe Bridgers called “Sidelines,” which Bridgers created for the series.

Following the success of Normal People, Sally Rooney fans can look forward to a similarly steamy and real romantic drama with Conversations With Friends. 

The show’s directed and executive produced by Lenny Abrahamson, who also led Normal People. Conversations with Friends is also co-produced by Ed Guiney, Emma Norton, and Andrew Lowe and co-penned by Alice Birch.
