BRYAN CRAIG Good Trouble Review: Meet the New Boss (Season 4 Episode 3)

Good Trouble Review: Meet the New Boss (Season 4 Episode 3)

Good Trouble, Reviews

Davia sexily dancing in a purple corset outfit for the start of Good Trouble Season 4 Episode 3, “Meet the New Boss,” is exactly the confidence-boosting change of mood we need after Callie’s exit on Good Trouble Season 4 Episode 2, “Kiss Me and Smile For Me.”

“Meet the New Boss” is a powerful episode. While it centers on Malika, Davia, and Marianna, important issues are brought to light through Joaquin’s storyline.

At first, there’s concern that Callie’s absence is going to be wholly felt, but the storyline and progression are natural and feel normal.

Malika starts her new job, but what is really exciting is her new relationship developing with Angelica. This is Malika’s first time dating a woman as well as her first time really exploring the polyamorous part of her identity.

Angelica and Malika are open and honest with each other, and the communication level here is inspiring. It’s incredibly important that they are both being seen and heard in the relationship, and their scenes together are done quite well.

On the other side, Malika is exploring a position in the political field, and this job is going to be the next big rollercoaster moment for her. Her main focus is incarcerated women, and it will be interesting to see where her ideas land with this group of colleagues.

The work-life balance between her new boss and her new girlfriend is also going to be big for her character arc overall.

Davia’s storyline is also headed into a fresh start in “Meet the New Boss” when she gets fired from her teaching job. This change of pace seems expected, especially since Matt is no longer in her life and her students witness her videos on her private Instagram page.

What is really sweet though is the advice from Dennis. He tells her to “find her toast,” and now we’re just waiting for Davia to realize that Dennis is the guy for her.

It’s also so great to see Davia’s growth with her students after all this time. Andre comes to visit her to say goodbye and share how much of an impact she’s had on him, and it’s impossible not to get absolutely emotional. His kind words are for sure a soft spot in Davia’s journey.

Body confidence and female empowerment is front and center when Davia auditions for a burlesque dancer position. “Meet the New Boss” really dives into how far these characters have come, especially the women, and it resonates.

Marianna also had her moments during this episode as she’s trying to move forward after Callie left. Her bravado is only so strong, as evident in her breakdown in an attempt to remove any big remnants from her sister.

The whole spying concept is also one that could backfire. We still don’t trust Marianna’s judgment when it comes to friends/business partners, and her new mole role at Revitalize Beauty is probably going to continue to turn heads.

There’s also so much tension still occurring between Marianna and Evan, so it makes sense that they’d be running into each other more frequently as they did previously.

Things start to get more interesting when BooBoo Stewart appears as a homeless person Joaquin is getting to know for a story he’s writing. Stewart’s character Luca is passionate and brings the issue of homelessness to the forefront of the show.

Good Trouble has no problem diving into tough topics, and the way it portrays homelessness is no different. Joaquin presents a more genuine side here and really cares about helping Luca and his community.

It’s amazing to see that versatility and kindness coming through. Luca explains real issues that real people face on a daily basis, and Good Trouble Season 4 Episode 3 is headed in the right direction.

Luca: That’s the thing about being invisible, no one cares when they erase you.

We truly see the passion and anger come out when Luca’s things are being taken by the city. He and Joaquin try to fight, yet they are unsuccessful. It’s raw, emotional, and not so fictional.

Joaquin is growing on us, and now we’re even more determined to figure out the mystery with his missing sister.
