Gavin Leatherwood Not Returning for ‘The Sex Lives of College Girls’ Season 2
Kimberly and Nico may not get another chance on The Sex Lives of College Girls since Gavin Leatherwood isn’t returning for the dramedy’s second season.
This news comes from Leatherwood’s recent conversation with US Weekly, and a source at TVLine confirms his departure from the series.
“There is a Season 2, but I’m not going to go back,” Leatherwood said and added he was “happy to do the first season,” but he will now be “branching off and going in a different direction.”
“It was such an incredible experience. I think Mindy is brilliant, and the cast, everyone’s lovely,” Leatherwood further explained.

“But with so many amazing opportunities out there, we want to keep spreading our wings and leading ourselves to other projects so that’s the move,” he continued.
So, what does this mean for Kimberly and Nico in Season 2?
In Season 1, the pair embark on a secret relationship that crumbles when the show reveals Nico has a(nother) secret, long-distance girlfriend.
Plus, Kimberly tries to steal Nico’s frat’s collection of tests to turn over to the honor board and uphold her academy standing at the university. Instead of fighting her on it, Nico encourages Kimberly, no matter the detriment to him, in a moment of good faith after his betrayal.

That understanding felt like it could be the beginning of a reconciliation between the two, despite Kimberly losing her scholarship due to her cheating.
But, now that Gavin Leatherwood isn’t returning for the new season, The Sex Lives of College Girls will have to take Kimberly’s romantic ventures in a new direction.
Of course, along with being Kimberly’s ex-boyfriend, Nico is Leighton Murray’s brother, so there is a chance for his return somewhere down the line — or at least a mention of his character.
We will have to wait for The Sex Lives of College Girls Season 2 to know for sure and to learn how the dramedy explains Nico’s absence at Essex College.

Sarah Aubrey, Head of Original Content, HBO Max, shared a heartfelt statement about the series after its renewal. “Mindy Kaling and Justin Noble have created and written a show that is full of heart, female friendships, and awkward naked parties,” Aubrey said.
“We are delighted that this comic, honest portrayal of the college condition has resonated for everyone, whether they had sex in college or not. We can’t wait to see where these uniquely complex yet relatable characters will go next,” Aubrey continued.
The series stars Pauline Chalamet, Amrit Kaur, Reneé Rapp, and Alyah Chanelle Scott. Additional Season 1 series regulars include Midori Francis, Gavin Leatherwood, Chris Meyer, Ilia Isorelýs Paulino, Lauren Spencer, and Renika Williams.
The Sex Lives of College Girls is created by Mindy Kaling and Justin Noble. Kaling and showrunner Noble co-wrote the first episode and executive produced with Howard Klein. The series is produced by Kaling International and 3 Arts Entertainment in association with Warner Bros. Television.
