Dylan O’Brien Not Returning for ‘Teen Wolf’ Reunion Movie
After months of speculation and rumors, Dylan O’Brien has confirmed that he will not reprise his role for Paramount Plus’ Teen Wolf reunion movie.
O’Brien played Stiles Stilinski on MTV’s under-dog hit series for six seasons, becoming a household name for teens everywhere as the show’s trusty side-kick. He rose to fame quickly thanks to his unnerving ability to juggle sharp sarcasm and villain arcs with tremendous range.
The actor broke the bad news during an interview with Variety for his upcoming film, The Outfit. “It was a difficult decision. A lot went into it,” O’Brien admitted.
“The show couldn’t be more dear to me. It was the first thing I ever did, and so many people there are extremely dear to me. It was something I was trying to make work but it all happened very fast. We didn’t really know that it was happening and they kind of just threw it at us a little bit, which is fine because we all love the show. We were trying to figure it out.”
While the idea of a Teen Wolf reunion without our beloved, bat-wielding Stiles seems unfathomable, fans can rest easy knowing the actor did what he believed was best for the character.
“Ultimately, I just decided it was left in a really good place for me and I still want to leave it there. I wish them well and I’m going to watch it the first night it comes out. I hope it fucking kicks ass, but I’m not going to be in it,” O’Brien affirmed.
Written by series creator Jeff Davis, the Teen Wolf reunions will see Tyler Posey, Holland Roden, Colton Haynes, Shelley Hennig, Crystal Reed, Orny Adams, Linden Ashby, JR Bourne, Seth Gilliam, Ryan Kelley, Melissa Ponzio, and Dylan Sprayberry return.
Tyler Hoechlin has yet to confirm whether he will reprise his role as Derek Hale. Arden Cho turned down an offer to return when it was revealed she was only offered half the salary as her white co-stars, according to Deadline.
If you are just as sad as we are at this news, know that even though Stiles Stilinski will not be coming back to us, O’Brien is not going anywhere.
He is set to star in a number of upcoming films like The Outfit and Not Okay. There’s even a rumor going around he could be playing a certain crime-fighting Nightwing in the new Batgirl movie.
Beacon Hills won’t be the same without Stiles Stilinski, but Hollywood is just getting to know the force that is Dylan O’Brien.
