‘Abbott Elementary’ Teams Up with Scholastic to Provide Underfunded Schools with Free Book Fairs
Abbott Elementary is already creating real change in the school system with its latest partnership with Scholastic. Janine Teagues would be proud!
Variety exclusively reported that “ABC has partnered with Scholastic to become the first entertainment brand to provide underfunded schools with free book fairs,” in attachment with the workplace comedy.
Each student will receive two free books, while each teacher will receive ten at the book fairs taking place at seven Title 1 schools between March 14 and 18.
The school Abbott Elementary is based on — Philadelphia’s Harrity Elementary — is one of the participating schools.

The others include Diehl Elementary in Erie, Bond Elementary in Chicago, Dayton’s Bluff Elementary in Minneapolis, Freeman Elementary in Flint, and Cortada Elementary and Florence Griffith Joyner Elementary in Los Angeles.
The good news doesn’t stop there! ABC launched a Traveling Teacher’s Lounge initiative that “provides teachers with books from Scholastic, classroom supplies, breakfast, and Abbott Elementary merchandise.” That initiative is already in motion as it began on January 3, 2022, and visited schools in multiple states.
It delivered thousands of books, notebooks, writing utensils, and art and craft materials in its travels. Variety reports that it has six new stops in “Dallas on March 10, Houston on March 11, Santa Fe on March 15, Phoenix on March 16, Reno on March 18, and Los Angeles on March 22.”
It is only right for Abbott Elementary, a show with a good message and a big heart, to partner with Scholastic on such an important initiative.

Erin Weir, executive vice president of marketing for ABC & General Entertainment, spoke about how in the “collaboration with Scholastic, we’ve had the great fortune of celebrating teachers through supply donations, grassroots activations and more, while also sharing the joy of our hilarious new comedy.”
This partnership makes sense to Scholastic, according to Billy DiMichele, senior vice president of creative development at Scholastic. “Our mission at Scholastic has always been to support teachers and provide them with the resources and materials needed to build warm, positive classroom experiences for their students,” DiMichele said.
Abbott Elementary focuses on Janine Teagues doing everything she can to support her students at an underfunded Philadelphia school. She has the support of her colleagues along the way, and it makes for a show that is literally changing schools.
This partnership will “put books into the classrooms that need them most and get kids excited about reading and learning,” DiMichele stated. This is the kind of feel-good news we love to see come from great TV!
Warner Bros. Television and 20th Television produce Abbott Elementary, with executive producers including Brunson, Randall Einhorn, Justin Halpern, and Patrick Schumacker.
