Nancy Drew Review: The Voices in the Frost (Season 3 Episode 9)
Nancy Drew Season 3 Episode 9, “The Voices in the Frost” is split between two major storylines: Nick, George, and Bess help new friend Eve with that whole “potentially killed someone” thing while Park again joins Nancy and Ace for some centuries-old storytelling that gets…um, weird.
We pick up right after leaving off with the former of these. Eve’s boyfriend drowned while they were alone on a boat together and, while suffering from random blackouts, she believes she may be getting possessed and thus unknowingly be guilty of the crime.
While Nick and George work fervently to find out otherwise, Bess is immediately convinced that Eve did it. This whole side of things is just strange. She later explains that she has trust issues, but, if anything, she’s fully devoted herself to certain people too quickly. Maybe that’s the point, given Temperance’s true nature.

Either way, we soon learn that the death was just an accident and Eve’s blackouts are related to her trauma. Mind, that only happens after she almost drowns herself in while in such a state. Nick pulls her from the icy depths just in time.
Despite talk of staying in Horseshoe Bay, Eve will likely head back to Florida soon. It would be a big disappointment not to see more of her. Her ties to Nick help us relate to him still more than we already do, but more importantly, we relate to her as a deeply empathetic survivor.
To tie still more into this hectic storyline, George is finally able to tell Nick she’s free from the curse and in celebration, they beat all the odds to make it to the courthouse in time to elope. Romantic, lovely, wonderful! Well, at least until George backs out at the last minute.

Though there’s no denying it’s a disappointment to the shippers and the whole thing does feel rushed, that second point is the point. With two long lives ahead of them, George and Nick deserve them both fully. They’re still so young and marriage means so much.
Though I believe Nick genuinely gets on board with these points, we can see that he’s affected. I just hope any tension it creates for them is resolved. These two want to be married someday, and the whole point of what they’ve just gone through is that they have the time for all such things.
I’m not feeling the love so much when it comes to the heavy hints dropped between Nancy and agent Park. The long-awaited prospect of Nace (aided here by Bess clearly reading Ace’s feelings) is a major factor, but so is the fact that I don’t sense the chemistry we’re meant to anyway.

I do like agent Park a lot. He’s in-depth with a painful past of his own, he’s refreshingly open to believing the supernatural, and he’s great at his job. But this feels like something nobody expects to really go anywhere—and, again, why does Nancy need a “thing” with every new presence in the HBPD?
At least this part of the plot gives us more interesting things, too. I’m reluctantly becoming invested in the story of Temperance, Charity, and the Copperhead—AKA Charity’s lost love, Beckett. So, of course, it’s the perfect time to bring a different spirit altogether onto the scene.
I’m sure I should be more concerned that said ghost wants Ace and possibly the others to die, but we know the Drew Crew has a great record where these things are concerned. By now, such threats are almost cliché. That said, what happens next is unexpected, to say the least.

Because this is a mid-season finale (of a sort—the second “half” will consist of only 5 episodes), there’s no way we’re leaving without a cliffhanger. Two if you count Bess stumbling upon Temperance’s notes revealing her true intentions. I’m all about this development.
But that other one, the one where Ace shifts from going to meet Nancy to being outside her house, with Hannah, and yet seemingly not really there at all? I have no idea what to make of that one, but it looks like we’re adding other planes of reality to our list of paranormal hot topics.
Hannah’s presence is interesting. It likely means there’s more than meets the eye when it comes to her appearing to let the Copperhead out, and that Ace has an ally to help him find his way back. But what could that way back look like? I’m nervous to find out.
