New Amsterdam Review: Paid In Full (Season 4 Episode 8)
Max unintentionally unleashes a cyberattack on the hospital on New Amsterdam Season 4 Episode 8, “Paid In Full.”
It’s a storyline that has been done before on medical dramas, and it is never exactly realistic even though cyber attacks do happen. Somehow, New Amsterdam succeeds in producing an engaging episode of TV.
Veronica manipulating Max is expected, but it is rather ridiculous how quickly the $10 million comes through so quickly and the hospital is miraculously saved.

Casey and Gladys are two of the best, most underused characters on the show and it better not actually be their last episode.
It appears that Casey has just become involved in Lauren’s bribe storyline, so his journey can’t be over. And Gladys just deserves a story. I want to know everything about her.
Other than ripping the best characters away from us, the episode eventually flows well and is impactful.
The cyberattack itself is unrealistic, but we meet the characters it affects and we actually see how scary it is that technology can actually kill people.
Gillian’s situation is emotional because cancer is the worst and any time a child might lose a parent it’s sad.

But Angelo’s case is shocking and sad to watch. It is so irresponsible that Iggy and Gladys just rely on their patients to tell them their medications.
To think so far as to tell your doctors to give you two doses of medication you know you’re allergic to is a quick but calculated suicide attempt.
Angelo’s explanation about how he feels on medication is easy to understand and empathize with. It would be hard to move around in the world feeling like a completely different version of yourself.
The scene is also pivotal for Iggy’s character growth. We don’t actually need Gladys to tell us that Iggy might be ready to treat patients again, we see it in the scene.

He gives Angelo great advice about finding himself again. But we also see Iggy realize he relates to Angelo’s depression and needs to find himself again, too.
I’m thankful that he still has a job so we are going to get to go along for the ride with him, even if it is without Gladys at his side. But she better eventually be back at his side again.
Human life should absolutely be valued above people’s jobs. Max is in a tough spot for sure. But it absolutely does not feel like the medical director we know to accept any of his staff losing their jobs.
It’s baffling that he would fire many to save a few of his friends; it’s so hard to process because I don’t have any idea where the final outcome of the Veronica versus Max battle is meant to be.

Still, if all roads lead to London I will be shocked.
