New Amsterdam Review: Seed Money (Season 4 Episode 4)
We’re heading in the right direction on New Amsterdam Season 4 Episode 4, “Seed Money,” thanks to a renewed focus on patients.
We have to start with Kerri because no matter how well-meaning they are, that child needs new parents.
There is nothing wrong with any trans-racial adoption. But there is a problem when white parents of a Black or biracial child are scared to initiate a conversation about race because when “you say one wrong thing…everyone gets so angry,” to quote both parents. Those people are not ready to have a bi-racial child.

I’m actually disappointed in New Amsterdam for presenting a conversation with Dr. Reynolds as the solution to this problem.
Kerri hurt herself trying to make her skin lighter. So, unless Child Protective Services follows the family’s progress talking about race, she’s not out of danger because some scared white parents “promise” to have more open conversations.
It is refreshing to see Iggy help Floyd come up with the “solution” to this storyline in a therapeutic manner.
Even if he’s just speaking to his colleagues, being a therapist is his calling, not being a teacher. He is also just a more tolerable human when solving other people’s problems for some reason.

Plus, every fix he comes up with makes sense for the characters. I’m not quiet about the fact that I’m not Max and Helen’s biggest fan as a romantic couple. But the thought of Max bringing out the troublemaker in Helen is cute.
New Amsterdam needs a Veronica Fuentes for the tension, as evil and profit-minded as she is. It’s going to be fun to watch Helen and everyone else stir up the most trouble possible in Max’s final days as medical director.
But even though Iggy is helping all of his friends make important realizations — (while acknowledging the fact that Max gets away with a lot because he is a white, straight, cis-gender, abled and not otherwise marginalized male) — it is frustrating that New Amsterdam moved Iggy away from seeing patients just to ultimately bring him back to where he originally was in the first place.

If that is not the definition of a boring character journey, what is?
Domino is a highlight of “Seed Money.”
The piece of land given to the hospital is such an unrealistic event. But Casey and Dr. Bloom do come up with a funny (if far-fetched) way that Max can use it to build an organic supermarket whether Veronica likes it or not.
Domino’s story is also a good reminder that as frustrating as the U.S. medical system is, ignoring our health issues has dire consequences.

Doctor’s Notes
- Lauren is so cute in love. There is nothing else to say except that I hope New Amsterdam doesn’t keep hinting to Leyla being her addiction.
- Lyn, I’m happy you are in love with Floyd and open polyamory is perfectly fine. But what makes you think that telling your husband you are in love with one of his employees is a good idea?
