Kiernan Shipka’s Sabrina Crossing Over To ‘Riverdale’ For Season 6 Special Event
Riverdale is about to get a whole lot more chilling.
Kiernan Shipka, who starred on Netflix’s Chilling Adventures of Sabrina for four seasons, is officially bringing her titular character to Riverdale in lieu of helping burgeoning witch Cheryl Blossom in her new crusade against Riverdale.
The Riverdale Season 5 finale left Cheryl Blossom casting a centuries-old curse on the town. Originally spoken by her ancestor Abagail, who was once burned at the stake, the curse was originally meant for the ancestors of Archie Andrews, Jughead Jones, and Betty Cooper.
It’s safe to say trouble is most likely brewing for those three main characters when Season 6 kicks off its five-episode special event, titled “Rivervale,” as Cheryl seeks her vengeance.
The crossover was first teased by writer Evan Kyle in a Q&A with The Dipp Wednesday night, with Showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa confirming the news in a statement to Entertainment Weekly.
“We’ve been talking about having Sabrina visit Riverdale since Season 1, so it’s thrilling this is finally happening, as part of our Rivervale special event,” he said. “It’s also perfect that she shows up to help Cheryl Blossom during her hour of greatest need. Everyone on set lost their minds — I think fans will, too. It’s really fun and special.”
Fans have been campaigning for Sabrina to make her way from Greendale to Riverdale since CAOS’ early cancellation, and Aguirre-Sacasa promises the five episodes will be “deeply set in the horror genre.”
Riverdale is set to premiere on Tuesday, November 16th at 9/8c — a new night and time! — on The CW. Patience is a virtue, because Shipka’s Sabrina won’t be turning up until Episode 4, titled “The Witching Hour(s).”
According to EW, Sabrina will assist Cheryl as she performs a dangerous spell “that may mean the difference between life and death for a beloved member of the Blossom family.”
It will be interesting to see how Riverdale finally incorporates the supernatural after teasing it for so long. It’s also a mystery how, exactly, Sabrina will show up to the town, considering that Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina series finale (Spoiler Alert: Sabrina dies in the final moments of the finale).
When it comes to witches, maybe all bets are off. We’ll have to wait until November to find out.
