Turner & Hooch Review: Witness Pup-tection (Season 1 Episode 9)
On Turner & Hooch Season 1 Episode 9, “Witness Pup-tection,” Scott is forced to do something he’s never had to do in order to get a suspect’s description: act like a dog. Luckily for Scott, Erica is there to help him be the best dog he can be.
Erica’s presence is always a bonus, and it’s wonderful that the show is exploring the variety of ways that she is an asset to Scott and his investigations. This time around, she teaches Scott how to connect with an autistic child.
Turner & Hooch sets up her integration into the case well, as Scott asks for an FBI therapist or some other specialist, and the chief mentions that they can’t get one assigned to help the case. It’s then that Erica is brought in.

As soon as the details of the case are disclosed, it is obvious that Erica would somehow be involved due to her experience with bonding and connecting with her autistic brother. It wouldn’t have been awful if Turner & Hooch brought her into the case immediately, but it wouldn’t have felt realistic for a law enforcement agency’s first choice to be a woman who trains their K-9 unit.
The chemistry between Erica and Scott is insane on “Witness Pup-tection.” They are extremely cute, especially when they’re on the couch talking about how Erica got Curtis to start talking to her when they were kids. Scott teases her a bit, which is adorable and showcases a different side of Scott than we’ve seen before.
I’m going to need for Scott to realize that “maybe I like weird” means that he likes her, and he should be with her and not Brooke. I may have flailed a bit when he said those words. Turner & Hooch is killing me with the cuteness of Erica and Scott. Keep it coming.

One of the big reasons why Turner & Hooch Season 1 Episode 8, “Arf Appreciation,” is a disappointing and boring episode is that Scott is all alone for the majority of the case/hour. Thankfully, Turner & Hooch doesn’t repeat that mistake with “Witness Pup-tection.”
In addition to Scott being partnered up with Erica, we also spend time with T-dog and Xavier as they work their angle of the case, and the chief and Jessica pop in as well. It’s truly a full team effort, and we check in with everyone throughout the hour.
Trent and Xavier’s partnership is a whole different level of hilarious, especially when Scott jumps in with the advice of riding the wave. The two of them are an unexpected pairing, and we need to see more of them together. I want to see if Xavier can make any kind of impact on Trent, or if T-dog is too far gone to learn from him.

Turner & Hooch has introduced us to so many different people in Scott’s life, and we’ve gotten to know them enough that it is enjoyable to spend time with them without Scott around. The show is slowly leaning into its ensemble element, and I’m here for it.
Stray Thoughts
- Scott dismissing the murder board and then discovering something from it is hilarious.
- The fact that Scott takes the time to check in on Erica after the attack? Perfection.
- Matthew is an excellent partner.
- Trent’s fight scene shows us that he is good at some parts of his job.
- Scott forcing Hooch to draw the bad guy is surprisingly funny. Hooch’s a good artist.
- Everyone else cried when Anthony named the puppy Hooch 2, right?
