Titans Review: Lady Vic (Season 3 Episode 6)
Titans Season 3 Episode 6, “Lady Vic,” lets Red Hood off his leash and gives us further insight into Barbara and Dick’s relationship. This episode delivers some amazing moments, but still lacks when it comes to the overall family dynamic, a trend pretty constant this season throughout.
However, despite this nagging feeling’s presence during the episode, there are great moments that range from Kory and Dick’s interactions to a fight scene where a disabled woman holds her own.
We also get to see Red Hood descend further, destabilizing Gotham even more as he directly challenges Scarecrow.

“Lady Vic,” whose namesake serves as more of a plot device to move characters towards or away from each other, ends on a particularly suspenseful cliffhanger. One that could put a future and a past Robin at insurmountable odds.
One of the highlights of Season 3 and “Lady Vic” specifically, is the addition of Savannah Welch as Barbara Gordon into Titans.
Characters with disabilities are among the things TV shows often get very wrong, using them as plot devices or sources of pain for the main character. But so far, that hasn’t been quite the case with Barbara Gordon.
It is slightly concerning that her story so far has mostly been tied to Dick (Gordon), but there’s still plenty of time for her to become more integrated into the Titans, especially with the namedrop of Oracle in this episode.

Dick Grayson is the protagonist of this series so that’s expected in some capacity, especially with the history between them also present in the comics.
But in other categories, Titans‘ portrayal of Barbara Gordon serves the character well.
Her relationship with Dick is complicated, but by no means is he portrayed as a savior stereotype. He checks out her apartment, but that’s something Barbara allows for his own peace of mind.
And mind you, this is after she fends off Lady Vic by herself. It’s pretty impressive that is she able to do this to a sober abled person, but one that’s hopped up on Crane’s fear drug.

The said fight is one of the series’ best by the way. The experience of seeing Barbara able to fend for herself and level with Lady Vic in a fight is a religious experience for me.
The choreography is thought out and realistic, without erasing the training and backstory Barbara has as an individual.
As someone who also struggles with a physical disability, albeit one that doesn’t restrict movement, I can’t reiterate how special it is to see this on a superhero TV show.
Representation is important, but more importantly, good representation is as well.
Barbara is a woman who doesn’t let the other people in her life or the things that have happened to her rule her story. She’s a fully developed character and one who doesn’t miss out on the action of Titans.

The missing sense of family throughout “Lady Vic” still leaves me wanting more, however.
The plot in Season 3 has seen a dichotomy, leaving Dick separate from other Titans such as Kory, Conner, and Gar. Even they feel like they have a missing link with the absence of Rachel, Hank, Dove, and Donna.
However, this episode has plenty of bright spots to boast, despite this.
While Dick and Kory haven’t had tons of interactions lately, the moments they have in this episode are filled with unspoken tension. These two are radiating chemistry — it’s no wonder they’re kept apart.
That’s not to say Dick and Barbara aren’t cute either. Barbara’s bashful moment at the bar is a memorable moment from “Lady Vic.”

Demaris Lewis also shines as Komand’r, the new outsider to the group.
She’s funny and a lot more complex than Kory previously made her out to be, which poses an intriguing conflict not only between the sisters but perhaps between Kory and the group as well.
This episode’s cliffhanger also has serious repercussions on how the season could continue.
The possible death of Tim’s father puts him directly at odds with Jason. But this also can be the root of what could shake Jason from the manipulation and darkness Crane thrust upon him.
How would Jason react to being the cause of the darkness that thrust Tim into Bruce’s wings?
