Burden of Truth Review: The Homecoming (Season 4 Episode 6)

Burden of Truth, Reviews

A shocking discovery brings everyone’s stories together, providing a potential answer as Joanna races to find a way to stop Oro North on a gripping Burden of Truth Season 4 Episode 6, “The Homecoming.”

Samantha’s reappearance doesn’t go the way Joanna hoped it would, causing the attorney to face Elyse again. Watching those two at the diner for less than five minutes leaves viewers with a feeling of intense dislike.

While it was an immediate reaction to her introduction at the start of the season, Elyse’s continuous presence only intensifies it, despite her relatively minimal appearance up to this point.

I may have said it before, but these moments also provide an opportunity to juxtapose the two women and show how far Joanna has come since she left her father’s firm and ended up fighting against him.

Elyse’s words are also the impetus for Joanna’s final push in the face of an even worse offer than Helen had. The new offer and what viewers don’t see brings the big question surrounding it all into focus: what is Oro North up to?

“The Homecoming” provides a pair of potential answers both equally as shocking and further ties Luna, Dee, and Taylor’s stories into Joanna’s main arc.

Luna, Stevie, and Taylor help Dee get away from her pimp/boyfriend, Wes. With a focus on Luna and Stevie’s legal investigation throughout the hour, we get a chance to see the pair flex their lawyer (in-training) muscles and get a bit more insight into their relationships and their potential baggage.

Though, it was clear to see from early on that Luna and Stevie come from different socioeconomic backgrounds and their career aspirations, seeing the pair work on Dee’s case, and seeing Luna’s plea to see this case through.

It was interesting to see Dee’s ability to remember exactly where she had been taken to repeatedly with the girls just by the noises and sensations she feels while stuck in the back of the blacked-out van.

Dee’s insights lead the ladies to a startling discovery about where these trafficked women end up, and it’s genuinely a shocking reveal: It’s an Oro North building complex!

The slow pan over to the name on the building is a terrific way to add a thriller-esque vibe to the moment, and you can’t help but feel that this is the answer to Joanna’s question about the mine what they were hiding from Billy and Joanna since the premiere.

When it feels like there’s a clear connection between these stories, there’s another possible secret that Oro North is hiding that may not be as shocking but just as potentially devastating to the company. The fact that there might not be any gold at all seems like the best way to ensure that the mine doesn’t follow the steel mill’s route, wreaking havoc on Millwood.

Elsewhere, Diane’s return brings with it some seemingly lingering conflict between her and Owen. Her return also allows Owen to open up more about his internal conflicts, seemingly between his culture and his job as a police chief.

I’m glad that we get this aspect of Owen and Diane’s relationship before the show’s end. It’s just a shame that it had to happen at this point.

Joanna and Billy are left with options to bring down Oro North by the close of the hour. The question now becomes, will the strategy work?

Random Thoughts

  • Joanna and Billy’s plea to Luna not to wake the baby is hilarious.
  • I know that the letter Joanna receives from the bar association, but the expressions on Billy and Joanna’s faces were positively unreadable.
