NBC Pulls Out of 2022 Golden Globe Awards
The controversy surrounding the Hollywood Foreign Press Association has now impacted its annual Golden Globe Awards, with NBC deciding not to air the 2022 event, per Deadline.
As a reaction to the systemic racism in the organization, there has been a groundswell of pushback against the HFPA. It was revealed in February that the organization has no Black members.
The press association has put forth a number of reform initiatives, such as hiring new executives and increasing membership by 50 percent over the next 18 months, but they have all fallen flat within the industry.

Several networks and studios including Netflix, Amazon, and WarnerMedia have vowed to boycott the organization until drastic changes are made.
In a statement, its U.S. broadcast partner has bowed out of the HFPA’s biggest event of the year.
“We continue to believe that the HFPA is committed to meaningful reform,” reads the statement. “However, change of this magnitude takes time and work, and we feel strongly that the HFPA needs time to do it right. As such, NBC will not air the 2022 Golden Globes. Assuming the organization executes on its plan, we are hopeful we will be in a position to air the show in January 2023.”

There is no word on whether NBC will still need to pay the HFPA the contracted $60 million for the 2022 Golden Globes airing rights.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, the HFPA responded to NBC’s announcement with a statement and a detailed timeline of its planned changes.
“Regardless of the next air date of the Golden Globes, implementing transformational changes as quickly – and as thoughtfully – as possible remains the top priority for our organization,” reads the statement. “We invite our partners in the industry to the table to work with us on the systemic reform that is long overdue, both in our organization as well as within the industry at large.”
