A Million Little Things Review: The Lost Sheep (Season 3 Episode 9)
Rome and Regina are the saving grace of A Million Little Things Season 3 Episode 9, “the lost sheep,” yet again. (The religious pun is there if you want it to be.)
Stories of faith or lack of it are rarely explored with the depth they deserve on TV.
Rome and his dad’s arguments only scratch the surface of faith discussions, but a start is a start, and A Million Little Things needs all of the help it can get right now.

It’s sweet that Rome comes to accept what his father needs. Really, what is the harm in allowing someone to believe in something that keeps them going, as long as it’s not a hate-filled or harmful belief?
Rome’s dad needs to learn that it’s OK if his son doesn’t believe in heaven. That shouldn’t shake his own conviction, and it’s disappointing that it might. But the story comes just about full circle, and it’s easier to get emotionally invested in than any other plot in the hour.
I like Tyrell, but the fact that he misses his mom’s phone call is such a forced plot device. The idea that “moms always find their sons” is sweet enough though.
Too bad Regina can’t remind Katherine of that right now. Other than a shoutout to Jackie, the patient at rehab who smacks Eddie over the head with the truth, Katherine is the only member of the Saville family worth talking about.
Right now, kissing Alan is a drunken mistake. But Katherine is well within her rights to leave Eddie and build a new life with a new man if that’s what she wants to do.

She renewed her vows quite recently, but then her husband fell into his old patterns with addiction. She has every right to be angry. The scene where she slams the computer screen down while Eddie is talking is the best few seconds of the episode.
Theo is too young to understand what’s going on. She is right that Eddie owes him the truth. And the fact that he’s angry at his mom but not his dad is just because it’s safer to be mad at Katherine.
So, she needs to take a deep breath and explain to Theo why she works so much and remind him that Eddie’s behavior is his own choice. And then if she wants to leave, she should.
As a matter of fact, kudos to Gary for offering her that out and support. Friends tell friends the truth. If Eddie can’t handle the fact that he’s put Katherine under an unimaginable amount of duress (as Gary can see) then he doesn’t deserve Gary as a friend.
A Million Little Thoughts
- I could not care less who Sophie is seeing in secret, but why doesn’t Danny have an arc?
- Breaking Maggie and Jamie up because they are catching feelings for each other is such a cop-out. Sex friends turned lovers is one of my favorite tropes.
