Legacies Review: Long Time, No See (Season 3 Episode 8)

Legacies, Reviews

Tensions are high between the super squad on Legacies Season 3 Episode 8, “Long Time, No See,” as Hope fights to get Landon back for good against the request of everyone else. Meanwhile, MG is facing the consequences of his decisions.

MG is seeing the fallout of his actions as everyone at the school turns their back on him. MG keeping the ascendant a secret and pretending like there’s no hope for Landon when in reality there was a chance the entire time is not something the students take lightly.

It may be a bit harsh to MG for everyone to completely curve him because, in his mind, he was only protecting everyone, but at the same time, his actions contradict his words. I never thought I’d see the day where Kaleb would turn his back on MG, but here it is. He told Kaleb, his best friend, to never give up on Landon but then kept the one thing Kaleb needed a secret so he couldn’t save him.

All in all, MG’s actions were grimy and prevented Landon from coming home sooner, even if he thought he was doing the right thing.

MG wouldn’t be in such hot water with this situation if he had told Alaric about his decision, and they had made a plan. At least in that scenario, the blame wouldn’t fall solely on MG, and he might be able to come back from it.

It’s a tad bit sad because it isn’t the ascendant that brings Landon back; it’s the black malivore monster conjuring magic that Cleo performs, ultimately saving the day. Without her summoning the malivore monster at will, the chances of Landon being found were looking pretty weak.

MG is right about the ascendant being dangerous in the end, and if it isn’t for the monster bringing Landon back just in time, Hope, Josie, and Lizzie would all be consumed with dark magic. So, MG’s decision not to tell HOPE about the ascendant is correct, but his decision to lie to everyone is not.

MG’s decision to leave the school is not a horrible one, even if it would be a sad day to see him go for good. With his new decision of saying no and not getting involved in anything, he hasn’t been thoroughly involved with anything in a minute. There’s no trust between him and anyone in the house anymore, especially Lizzie.

Lizzie forced MG to believe that nobody would ever have his back again after siphoning him dry to steal the ascendant and help Hope. There’s no guessing that this will eat Lizzie alive for a while, but she can’t be too hard on herself because there’s no telling what would have happened to Josie if she hadn’t shown up. Her love for Josie is what saved her.

The dark magic that flows through the prison world because of the necromancer is so strong that it almost consumes Hope, Josie, and Lizzie, but Landon bursts through the shadows and saves the day just in time.

Hope’s love for Landon is unmatched by anything else in her life, which is a known fact, but there has to be a line at some point. Kidnapping Josie from her human life at Mystic Falls High to help her find Landon is a new low because she only sees her wants and isn’t thinking about anyone’s safety.

Hope knows it’s the wrong move because she lies to entice Josie into joining her; if it weren’t a bad choice, she would’ve been truthful and upfront.

If Landon didn’t show up when he did, there’s no telling what would’ve happened to Josie. Alaric says that the scans ran on her show that she has no traces of black magic inside her, but I don’t think that’s the case. The black magic has ruled her body once before, and with the power it possesses, it’s possible it could hide within her.

Josie wants to move out of the boarding school to go live with a family friend, which I think wouldn’t be a bad idea, but that could be when the real trouble starts. There’s always the possibility that the dark magic isn’t in her, but I’m expecting to see some freaky things start happening at Mystic Falls High.

As for Cleo, I’ve had my eye on her since she arrived, and after this little performance, it’s clear that she’s not a nobody. We know nothing about her backstory at all, and nobody has cared to investigate it more. I hope that on the next episode, we see someone pick her brain a bit.

I believe there’s a real possibility that Cleo could be a witch from the Bennett bloodline. If not Bennett’s blood, then something because Cleo is not a regular witch.

“Long Time, No See” is a great episode that brings our favorite characters to their breaking points and makes them sit and think about what the future may hold for them. Things aren’t always going to turn out how you plan or how you want.
