Kara Killmer and Jesse Spencer seem like they agree with many fans when it comes to #Brettsey — they hope their Chicago Fire characters will finally get together. And from the sounds of things, there’s still hope that could happen.

Killmer and Spencer recently spoke with reporters during a virtual press junket about Brett and Casey’s romance and what it would take for them to become a couple.

As for Casey’s feelings for Gabby and how that plays into it, Spencer sees it as a gray area.

“When you leave someone and you love someone, does that mean you never love them, or you can’t continue to love them in sort of a fashion?” Spencer pondered. “Is it so black and white? I kind of like a gray area. I think they’ll find a way.”

“I think that the way the writers have written it is really sweet and really, even though it’s not perfect obviously, they kind of have good communication,” Killmer said. “I think there’s a genuine care for one another, so much so that they wind up getting in their own way. They don’t really get what they want because they’re trying to be so considerate of the other person.”

Watch the interview with Kara Killmer and Jesse Spencer:

Though Killmer wasn’t sure it could work at first, and she even told us in a previous interview she was a big Dawsey fan, she has hopes for Brett and Casey to work it out now.

“I’d like for them to get it together, but I want the works! You see, I want all the big gestures, just take notes, alright?” she laughed.

“The writers were just putting them together in situations where he was a guy looking out for his friend who was hurting,” Spencer said. “It just felt really organic and felt really good. So to make the crossover into romantic territory felt great. It was a smooth transition. And then of course it can’t be a completely smooth transition because that would be boring, so we have to throw a few roadblocks in there. But that’s great too. We’re going to watch these characters dance around each other for a bit longer and hopefully get it together.”
