Preview — Dickinson Season 2: Fame Is a Dangerous Game

Dickinson, Previews

Season 2 of Dickinson is almost here! Hailee Steinfeld returns as Emily Dickinson to explore another prominent theme of Dickinson’s work: fame. Dickinson is notorious for writing about her hesitance towards and resistance of fame.

The theme of fame presents itself in Season 2 when Emily is pulled out of her private life and thrust in the public eye. This is a logical continuation of last season where Emily took massive steps to be taken seriously as a poet.

Emily has Sue to thank for being the catalyst in Emily’s latest step towards fame. Sue is the one who introduces Emily to Samuel Bowles, the editor-in-chief of the Springfield Republican. Finn Jones (Iron Fist) joins the cast as Bowles.

Of course becoming a famous poet isn’t that easy, and it appears that Emily and Bowles will bump heads about a thing or not. Not to mention, Emily and Sue appear to be drifting apart due to their new roles in the public eye.

Emily’s professional relationship with fame is sure to have ripple effects on everyone in her life. In fact, Season 1 makes it clear that her father Edward, who is Emily’s biggest fan otherwise, is concerned about what Emily’s published work could mean for the Dickinson family.

Dickinson Season 1 sees Emily step into her power as a poet by binding her own work to prove it worthy of recognition. Now Emily will have to deal with the repercussions of doing that on a much, much larger scale.
