Call Me Kat Review: Plus One (Season 1 Episode 1)
FOX tries its hand at British comedy with Call Me Kat, a remake of fan-favorite Miranda.
On Call Me Kat Season 1 Episode 1, “Plus One,” we meet Kat, a 39-year-old woman who quits her job as a math professor to open a cat cafe.
Original creator, star, and writer Miranda Hart is also an executive producer on this version.

While Kat hilariously tries to keep a promise to take employee Phil as her plus one to a friend’s vow renewal, we are also introduced to her mom and friends.
Look, I don’t want to spend the whole season comparing it to the original because honestly, Miranda Hart has a comedic genius that can’t be duplicated.
However right from the start, the show has all the reckless fun that fans of Miranda have come to expect. We still get the fourth wall breaks and cutaways. There are even several jokes from Miranda Season 1 Episode 1, “Date.”
Spoiler alert: they’re still laugh-out-loud funny.

TV-vet Mayim Bialik is so charmingly silly as Kat that we instantly forget all about Amy Farrah Fowler. Though we can never forget about Blossom, we’ll love her forever.
She hits every ridiculous joke and scenario with just the right blend of awkward and hilarious.
It’s so great to finally have an adult comedy where the single woman lead isn’t presented as sad and desperate to be married.

When Kat and Phil talk about the loneliness of being single, but then she instantly affirms how much she loves her life, it’s the most honest scene on TV in a long while.
As good as Bialik is, she has found the perfect comedy partner in Leslie Jordan. As Phil, his enthusiastic support of her and the cafe is endearing.
And as usual, he steals every scene he’s in.
The show features a stellar supporting cast that includes Swoosie Kurtz as Kat’s mom, Cheyenne Jackson as her old friend/crush Max, Kyla Pratt as her friend/co-worker Randi, and Julian Gant as bar owner Carter.

Though we didn’t get to spend too much time with them in the first outing, we can’t wait to see more of the love/hate, ok mostly hate, between Carter and Kat.
There’s already so much to like about the show, but I am also really excited to see what twists and turns it takes to make the concept it’s own.
If you’re looking for a place to escape for thirty minutes of non-stop laughs, performed by some of the best in the business, Call Me Kat is absolutely the perfect choice.

Did you watch this with your eyes and ears glued shut? It is so so so so so so bad. PAINFULLY bad. The writing is refried garbage on stale toast.
Bad!
The reviewer must be a lobotomy patient if they honestly find this show funny.
Thank you for your review, Mrs. Bialik.
“If you’re looking for a place to escape for thirty minutes of non-stop laughs, performed by some of the best in the business, Call Me Kat is absolutely the perfect choice.” What?!? The show is nothing but pathetic attempts at humor. Maybe you have to be stoned on marijuahootchie to find the show funny.
