Superstore Review: Prize Wheel (Season 6 Episode 4)
Superstore simply cannot resist continuing to change things up with management. Luckily – having responsibilities constantly shift makes for some great comedy and allows lots of characters chances to shine.
On Superstore Season 6 Episode 4, “Prize Wheel,” Dina has to take over running the store while Glenn has to quarantine after a potential exposure to COVID. The results are predictably wild and hilarious.
Dina, of course, has spent years ripping on Glenn and his management style, so her need to be perfect of course leads to failure in the best way.

This is a great primary story because of the fact that it’s changing around who is in charge, and everyone has a different leadership style. “Prize Wheel” also marks Cheyenne’s first day as floor supervisor, which is a stark contrast to Dina.
“Prize Wheel” could become a case study for college business and management courses because of the way it depicts their management styles. Dina reflects a hands-on approach that quickly devolves into micromanagement and destroying morale, while Cheyenne (and Glenn) represent more of a zone defense.
Though it doesn’t seem like it at first, “Prize Wheel” is also a pivotal episode for Jonah. His excitement about an opportunity that falls through when he realizes he is under-qualified for things he really wants to do. Viewers are going to look back on “Prize Wheel” as a turning point for Jonah as an individual — mark my words.

Growth and change are really important for Jonah because he needs to establish himself apart from Amy. Ben Feldman now has top billing on Superstore, so it’s imperative the show explore beyond the surface level and establish multiple dimensions to the character.
As far as episodes go, “Prize Wheel” is solid. It’s funny, and continues to explore characters other than Amy and Jonah on a deeper level. It uses recurring players like Justine, Sayid, and Marcus really well, and is all-around funny.
Is “Prize Wheel” a remarkable episode? Absolutely not. But it’s funny, goes deeper with the characters, and sets up some serious growth for some of the major players (Dina, Cheyenne, Jonah) down the line.

A few stray thoughts:
- “Rubbing a little latte” is a great bit about texting mistakes.
- Highlights of “Prize Wheel” for me: Marcus’ obsession with his fat nephew and Justine and Sayid’s feud. Hilarious.
- Glenn’s face when he sees all of the employees destroying the prize wheel with baseball bats is PRICELESS.
- Cloud 9 knows a thing or two about getting people to show up in person. Anyone will show up for free crap.
- “Close your eyes. Take a deep breath. Now shut the f*** up and go back to work.”
- The way I reacted to the “Jerry should’ve ended up with Carol” comment tells me that Jerry and Sandra are the true OTP of Superstore. I will not be taking questions at this time.

This episode is the turning point that ends this series. Its unfunny and over the top with hand movements while clearly being able to tell its voice over work (because of masks). This is something we don’t need to relate with in TV. I enjoyed Superstore and it had a good run.
