Superstore Review: Floor Supervisor (Season 6 Episode 3)
Well, it has finally arrived. Superstore has officially entered the post-Amy era.
On Superstore Season 6 Episode 3, “Floor Supervisor,” Glenn’s re-promotion to manager (following Amy’s departure) leaves an opening for the Floor Supervisor position and several candidates vying for it.
Certainly, one might expect that things would look different with America Ferrera gone, but “Floor Supervisor” feels unexpectedly…normal.

The first two episodes of Season 6 feel special, first in the tackling of the pandemic from a retail worker perspective and then with Amy’s departure after 100 episodes. “Floor Supervisor,” however, is a look at what life will be like at Cloud 9 following the departure of Amy, and honestly? It doesn’t look that different.
Superstore has always rested not in the talent of its leads, but the comedic chops and quiet depth to the vast array of characters employed by Cloud 9. That said — “Floor Supervisor” gets wind in its sails from the likes of Cheyenne, Dina, Garrett, and Sandra.
“Floor Supervisor” isn’t groundbreaking by any means. It’s fine — good, even. But by promoting someone new to management and exploring deeper things within other characters (Garrett is in love with Dina, y’all!), Superstore uses “Floor Supervisor” to take its first step into post-Amy life.

Though it isn’t groundbreaking, “Floor Supervisor” sets up what Superstore will look like going forward, especially in naming Cheyenne into the aforementioned job. Nichole (formerly Bloom) Sakura does a fantastic job, and putting her in this position will hopefully lead to more screen time for her.
Cheyenne: How about Brett? His new boots are dope.
There are a few modern references — while Jonah and Cheyenne duke it out in the Floor Supervisor election, tons of references are made to modern politics. Honestly they may not have taken that analogy far enough in the age of Trump, but it’s still funny to watch Jonah be unfairly chastised for his once upon a time visit to Hooters.

Truly, though, “Floor Supervisor” is about changing and moving forward. Cheyenne is moving into a new position, Jonah a new phase in life, Glenn into a newfound reliance on others — but perhaps the biggest change is Garrett moving into a more mature version of himself.
It seems that the show’s romantic story may focus on Garrett and Dina for awhile, and I’m OK with it. In fact…I ship it.
With Amy gone, it seems an apt time to focus on the growth of the other characters. It’s off to a good start here, and honestly? It doesn’t look that different.

A few stray thoughts:
- Mateo is the true comic MVP of this episode. Trying to fire Justine or keep Carol from taking a day off? Hilarious.
- I hope that Jonah is able to distract himself or move on soon. People “treading lightly” around him is funny, but will quickly get old.
- Anyone else chomping at the bit to try the Caprese Salad at Hooters? Just me?
- I’m excited to dig deeper with this cast of characters with Amy gone. I’ll miss her, sure, but excitement for the future abounds.
