Trae Romano Talks ‘DC’s Stargirl’ Season 1 [Exclusive Interview]
In May, The CW premiered Stargirl, their lastest DC offering. The series follows high school student Chloe Whitmore who finds a magic staff and becomes the inspiration for a new head of superheroes.
After being in the works for two years, the series debuted on our television screens in May and has already been renewed for a second season.
I had a few questions for Trae Romano, who plays Courtney’s stepbrother Mike, about how he got into acting, what fans should expect from the remainder of this season of Stargirl, and more.
Tell-Tale TV: How did you get started acting and what do you like most about the profession?
Trae Romano: I got interested in acting when a family friend was in Atlanta filming one summer. We spent several weeks on set and I even got to be in a scene with Larry David. From that point on, I was hooked!
I love being able to become different characters and make them my own. Sometimes I get attached to characters I really relate to.

Tell-Tale TV: What was your audition process like for the role of Mike?
Romano: I’d like to say it was a journey, but to be quite honest, it was at a point where I was ready to take a pause. I had come very close to a few things, and I kind of felt like it just wasn’t happening.
I had done so many auditions, and one day I got a call from my agent, manager, and lawyer and they told me I had gotten the role!
Tell-Tale TV: Mike and Courtney are step-siblings. Can you talk a bit about the dynamics of their relationship?
Romano: It’s like most sibling relationships. Having spent most of my life with just my dad, Pat, it was hard for me to share him with my new step sister which caused some friction.
Tell-Tale TV: What is something that you want the audience to know about Mike?
Romano: Mike is a quirky kid that hides his sensitivity with his goofy antics and loves his dad more than anything.

Tell-Tale TV: Who have you enjoyed working with the most on set?
Romano: Honestly, I liked working with everyone on set! I mostly worked with my “family” for my scenes, but got to know everyone throughout the season. Luke and I hung out a lot on and off screen, so I’d say I got to know him the best.
When I go out to LA, I usually meet up with Amy, Brec, and some of the others. It’s an incredibly cohesive and close cast!
Tell-Tale TV: Were you always a fan of the superhero franchise?
Romano: No, I really didn’t follow any superheroes. This was a whole new world for me. It’s been great because I had no expectations that could cloud my idea of what it should be like.

Tell-Tale TV: If you were a superhero, what would your power be and what would your costume look like?
Romano: Great question. I’ve never thought about it. I think my costume would have to be a sweatsuit (being in quarantine has made me really appreciate sweats and how comfy they are) that is green and red with gold accents.
I’d love to be able to fly so I guess either wings or cape would be necessary. If I could wave a wand and have another superpower, it would be to make the world silent.
Tell-Tale TV: What are your favorite things to do when you’re not acting?
Romano: I write a lot. I love writing. I’ve written many scripts and hope to one day bring one to the screen. I also play golf and skateboard, [and] have really started to enjoy ping pong.
