Preview — Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 7 Episode 5: A Trout in the Milk
The Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and their newest recruit, Daniel Sousa, are ready to get down and groovy in the seventies.
However, their latest time jump will bring anything but good vibes. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 7 Episode 5, “A Trout in the Milk,” has a few tricks up its sleeve for the team to endure during this disco decade.
In a surprising turn of events, Sousa will be sticking around for at least another episode or two as he wraps his head around the fact that the life he knew is over and that bell-bottoms are now an acceptable part of society.
His semi-permanent return to the small screen MCU brings promises of Legends of Tomorrow level antics as this motley crew continues to muck around with the S.H.I.E.L.D. lore we know and love.
His return also presents an interesting theory regarding the 2012 film, The Avengers.
You see, Enver Gjokaj, who plays Sousa, also had a small role in the film’s infamous Battle of New York as an NYPD police officer. It’s possible Sousa’s fresh start could eventually lead to him to the early 2000s where he decides to leave the agency for good and become an officer on the front lines.
It’s a coincidence that could end up rounding out Sousa’s time with us perfectly. That being said, we did just get Peggy’s best partner back, I’m sure no one is keen to see him go yet.
As fun as seeing the team decked out in seventies threads is, it’s suggested we won’t be spending as much time in the colourful decade as we would like.
An unexpected time jump will once again send our agents hurtling through time and right into a pivotal date — one that if altered could have major consequences for the future of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Director Mack.
Could this be referring to the brief clip we saw in the season trailer of The Triskelion, S.H.I.E.L.D. fancy Washinton headquarters, being blown to pieces? Could Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. once again overlap with the events of Winter Soldier or Avengers? And did Sousa and Steve ever meet to discuss their experience as men out of time?
With Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. playing toward an ambitious endgame, it’s safe to say anything is possible when orchestrating a time-heist.

Episode description: After a bumpy landing in the disco decade, the team – Daniel Sousa in tow – reunites with more than one familiar face at the S.H.I.E.L.D. hangout and discovers exactly how to dismantle the Chronicoms’ latest plan. But when they get too close for comfort, the Zephyr unexpectedly leaps forward again, this time to a date pivotal to not only the future of S.H.I.E.L.D. but to the future of Director Mack as well.
