First Look at Syfy’s ‘Vagrant Queen’
There’s a new badass leading lady joining the Syfy family, and this time she’s royalty.
Based on the Vault comic of the same name, Vagrant Queen is Syfy’s new space adventure, filling the void left by Killjoys which ended last summer.
The series follows displaced queen, Elida, who along with ally(ish) Issac and new friend Amae set out to find Elida’s mom all while avoiding long time enemy Commander Lazaro.
Previews of Vagrant Queen promise a bright, fast-paced, stylized escape with a lot of attitude and plenty of sharp quips to go around.
The show synopsis is generally in line with the comic written by Eisner and GLAAD Media Award-nominated author Magdalene Visaggio (and illustrated by Jason Smith), but there are a few significant changes.
The two major changes from the comic are the introduction of the character of Amae and a larger focus on world-building, both of which expand the source material and should make the series and even grander adventure.
Vagrant Queen stars Adriyan Rae as Elida, Alex McGregor as Amae, Paul du Toit as Commander Lazaro, and Wynonna Earp fan-favorite Tim Rozon as Issac. It was developed by executive producer Jem Garrard who also wrote a number of episodes along with Mariko Tamaki and Mika Collins.
Hold on to your hats and get ready because we are in for one helluva a ride.
Official Synopsis: Former child queen Elida has been on the run since her mother was shot and killed Commander Lazaro, the man responsible for bringing down their empire. A highly skilled fighter, Elida has been living in hiding and making ends meet as a scavenger while the unhinged Lazaro obsesses over tracking her down. When Elida’s old frenemy, Isaac, shows up with news that her mother is still alive, it takes the help of the optimistic mechanic Amae, to escape Lazaro’s army and begin the rescue mission across a dangerous galaxy.
To save her mother the team must break into the heavily guarded region of space where Elida once ruled, but an encounter with a group loyal to her former throne forces Elida to face her past as a child queen. Cannibalistic aliens, dangerous planets, shootouts, karaoke, and parking tickets complicate the journey further, and they don’t have long before the increasingly deranged Lazaro catches up to them.
