‘Killing Eve’ Gets Early Season 4 Renewal, New Female Showrunner Will Be Named

Good news Killing Eve fans! BBC America has already renewed the show for a fourth season, months ahead of the spring premiere. Season 4 is also poised to continue the tradition of nominating a new female showrunner for the new season with Season 3’s Suzanne Heathcote stepping down. 

“I am beyond thrilled that we can continue our extraordinary journey,” said executive producer Sally Woodward Gentle. “It is testament to everyone involved that we have been picked up so early — the magnificent actors, writers, directors and production team. We are extremely lucky to work with such fierce and dedicated people.”

The news of the renewal isn’t entirely surprising. According to TV Line, the simulcasting of Killing Eve Season 2 on BBC America and AMC produced the highest rate of growth of any returning drama doubling the freshman audience in live and same-day ratings, upwards of one million viewers.

Killing Eve has captivated viewers in an astounding manner. Season-over-season growth like this would be remarkable at any time, it’s virtually unheard of in television today. There is so much love for Killing Eve from a growing base of passionate fans, it’s quite thrilling to witness,” said Sarah Barnett, president of the entertainment networks group for AMC Networks said in a press release.

The show has also been a magnet for awards. In the last year, the show has been nomination in several major categories and has won big in ever major award show. The show even won a 2019 Peabody Award in Entertainment

The show is slated for a spring return, and there is certainly plenty to look forward to after the events of Killing Eve Season 2 Episode 8, “You’re Mine.”

Throughout the three seasons produced so far, each has had a new female showrunner. Phoebe Waller-Bridge started the tradition of handing the reigns after Season 1 to Emerald Fennell. The upcoming third season will be helmed by Suzanne Heathcote.
