Single Parents Review: Derek Sucks (Season 2 Episode 3)

Reviews, Single Parents

On Single Parents Season 2 Episode 3, “Derek Sucks,” Angie’s self control is tested. Future Angie wins out practically every time, even with Will and Miggy there as backup.

Angie’s a lot more likable, and less doom and gloom, during “Derek Sucks.” It’s refreshing because recently we’ve only been seeing her more darker (and not in a fun way) side.

She doesn’t have to be happy all the time because that wouldn’t be true to who she is, but she’s also not negative constantly, especially not when it comes to Graham.

Angie may rely on a dumpster fire of a printer, but she’s a good parent. Will acknowledging that is great; he helps give Angie the little boost she needs to slowly let Derek get to know his son.

I’ve never been more proud of her than when she gives him the photo album instead of telling Derek that he can meet Graham. Derek needs to earn that trust because he can’t disappear on Graham.

Hopefully, we will see Derek start to earn that trust.

Will: What? Don’t believe her.

Derek: I think we should believe women.

Derek brings an interesting dynamic to the show, and it would be great to see more of him. It’s fun watching him with Miggy and Will. I’d love to see him interact with the rest of the group, especially Poppy.

This needs to be the last of Future Angie though.

If Derek is sticking around, we can’t continually repeat Angie spiraling and falling into bed with him. It’s entertaining for this episode, not forever.

Angie: Who comes to your house and knocks on your door?

Angie seems to have turned a corner by the end of “Derek Sucks,” letting her parental side and judgement take control.

Let’s hope it stays that way because it’ll be interesting to see her coping with Graham meeting his father for the first time and how that maybe changes her relationship with Graham.

As far as running gags go, the printer is absolutely hilarious. The fact that it is continually struggling to print is the background is laugh out loud worthy all on it’s own.

I shouldn’t have found a printer so amusing, but here we are. Is anyone else surprised that it manages to catch on fire and yet not burn?

Poppy and Douglas are absolutely adorable.

It makes sense that it would take Douglas a minute to adjust to actually dating another parent.

Single Parents Season 2 Episode 3

He’s used to wining and dining women who he never introduces to Emma and Amy. His girls already know and love Poppy, and Douglas already knows (and dare I say loves) Rory. This is uncharted territory for him.

I’m excited to see what their dating life looks like. If it’s more secret date night with the kids, bring it on. Which kid do you think will figure out that Poppy and Douglas are dating first?

Also, very important question, is Douglas sketching Rory’s inaugural ball outfit or is he simply commenting on Rory’s own sketches? It’s vital that we learn the truth here.

Stray Thoughts:
  • Louisa’s whole lifestyle is…an experience.
  • DO SOPHIE AND GRAHAM SURVIVE THE FEEDING?!
  • It’s amazing that Rory, Amy, and Emmar not being at Lance Bass Space Camp is brought up.
  • Please tell me we will eventually see the finished Mermaid Castle or at least continue to see Miggy struggle to build it.
