Prodigal Son Scores Fall’s First Full-Season Order
Malcolm Bright’s awkward reunion with his father is just getting started. FOX has ordered a full season of the freshman drama Prodigal Son, starring Tom Payne (The Walking Dead) as the NYPD profiler dedicated to helping police catch serial killers similar to the man who raised him.
This is the first full-season order off the fall season.
The series also stars Michael Sheen (Masters Of Sex) as Malcolm’s father, who also happens to be the infamous serial killer Martin Whitly, and Bellamy Young (Scandal) as his mother, Jessica Whitly.

FOX has ordered the “back nine” episodes of the series, so Prodigal Son Season 1 will include 22 episodes, as reported by TVLine.
The series also focuses on the psychological impact that Malcolm’s reunion with Martin has on him and his job performance.
Prodigal Son also stars Lou Diamond Phillips (Longmire) as the NYPD detective who recruited Malcolm because of his unique skills, and Halston Sage (The Orville).

In a statement about Prodigal Son‘s pickup president of FOX Entertainment Michael Thorn said, “The series has razor-sharp writing, cinematic visuals and is an inventive twist on the genre. We want to thank our executive producers, Greg [Berlanti], Sarah [Schechter], Chris [Fedak] and Sam [Sklaver], Peter Roth and our partners at Warner Bros. and the entire cast and crew. We can’t wait to see how this twisted journey continues to unfold.”
Prodigal Son premiered September 23 and was the top-rated new show of the season according to live ratings; delayed viewing numbers showed a 50% increase in viewers.
Prodigal Son fans may be in for shocking twists this season, but its full-season order is no surprise.
