It looks like Green Arrow won’t be leaving our screens just yet.

The CW is moving forward with a backdoor pilot for an Arrow spinoff starring Katherine McNamara, Katie Cassidy, and Juliana Harkavy.

According to Deadline, the series was originally teased at the network’s Television Critics Association panel and will focus on Mia Smoak, Felicity and Oliver’s daughter, known as Green Arrow and the Canaries Laurel Lance and Dinah Drake.

The project is being set up as a backdoor pilot during the eighth and final season of Arrow. Mark Pedowitz to Deadline about how they’d been looking for a new Arrowverse show to continue the legacy. Arrow was the flagship series for The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl, and the newly created Batwoman

“The fact that seven years ago, we introduced Arrow, who would have thought it would have spawned six shows, a whole universe that they managed to create. It’s quite a remarkable feat,” Pedowitz said.

“We believe these franchises, this universe will continue for many years, so it’s important to ensure that you have characters that will keep the fans coming back. How that universe plays out, time will tell,” he added.

It will be written by Beth Schwartz, Marc Guggenheim, Jill Blankenship, and Oscar Balderrama. The project comes from Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros Television.

Mia Smoak originally appeared in the future-set episode Arrow Season 7 Episode 16, “Star City 2040,” and recurred throughout Season 7 before being promoted to series regular for the show’s final season.

“Star City 2040,” felt a little like a backdoor pilot itself, setting up for the handoff of the superhero title.

Should this backdoor pilot set forth a father-daughter superhero baton hand-off it would place DC in a position to compete with the Disney+ series, Hawkeye from Marvel Studios. Hawkeye follows  Marvel Avenger Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) who is training a young female protege Hailee Steinfeld to take up his mantle.

Arrow is coming to an end in the 2019-2020 television season, and the final ten episodes are described by producers as a “greatest hits” with plenty of favorite guest stars making return appearances for storylines that could have been completed in Season 2 or 3.
