Which Character is Being Eyed for a Return to ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Season 16?
Over the years, Grey’s Anatomy has said goodbye to some beloved characters, but now it looks like one of them is being eyed for a return.
In a TV Line exclusive, showrunner, Krista Vernoff teased that she is currently eyeing a character to reappear on Grey’s Anatomy Season 16.

“I’m trying to get someone back,” Vernoff teased. “There’s someone I’m hoping will make an appearance this year, [but] it’s a real maybe. I’m trying.”
Vernoff did not elaborate as to which former cast member she was looking at to make a reappearance, or how big the arc would be. She was, however, a little more forthcoming about the overall theme of the medical drama’s upcoming season.
Last year, Vernoff had a “lucky swing” branding Grey’s Anatomy Season 15 the “Season of Love” Season 16 will be largely theme-less and explore multiple themes.

“It’s the season of family and it’s the season of expansion because we’re expanding the world of Grey’s Anatomy [via Station 19],” Vernoff explained.
At the Television Critics Association summer press panels, earlier this week, Vernoff talked about the possibility of an inter-series romance blossoming between both a Station 19 and a Grey’s Anatomy character. Vernoff was appointed showrunner for Station 19 back in May and will be overseeing both. At the same time, she put to rest the concern that the two shows would co-mingle with weekly crossover episodes.

With readings for the new episodes underway, Vernoff says that she sees this season as the Season of Fun.
“We’re having so much fun. I kind of want to call it the ‘Season of Fun.’ We sat at the table read today [for Episode 2] and we laughed until we cried. There is some really fun, funny stuff coming up,” said Vernoff.
