Relax, there will not be a Grey’s Anatomy and Station 19 crossover every week this fall.

Back in May, ABC announced that current Grey’s Anatomy showrunner Krista Vernoff would be taking over the firefighter drama next season.

Deadline reported that during the announcement ABC Entertainment President Karey Burke stated that the two shows would build a shared universe in the upcoming season saying, “People can expect crossover event between these series every week.”

According to TV Line, Burke now says that she misspoke and there will not be a crossover event next week, but rather three or four peppered throughout the season.

“To do a crossover every week would dilute the special nature of them. I think it’s going to be three or four peppered throughout the season,” explained Burke.

What fans of both shows can expect is a more blended feel under Vernoff’s direction. Burke also teased about a romance blossoming between a Grey’s Anatomy and Station 19 character this season but did not reveal the identities of the characters in question.

The decision to blend the two shows doesn’t come as much of a surprise. Every time a Station 19 and Grey’s Anatomy crossover event airs, it results in an uptick in Station 19‘s numbers.

Plans to further connect the Grey’s Anatomy and Station 19 universes have not been well-received by fans with some worried that the presence of Station 19 characters on the medical drama might dilute the original show.

But fans of Grey’s Anatomy don’t need to worry, because according to Burke, Station 19 will likely feel more like Grey’s Anatomy and not the other way around.

“The goal is not to have Grey’s feel more like Station. The goal is to extend the DNA of Grey’s to Station in a more significant way,” Burke stated.
