The Order: Devery Jacobs on Her Inspiration For Lilith and The Obstacles Ahead For Season 2 [Video]
The Order’s Lilith Bathory (played by Devery Jacobs) has had quite a journey throughout the freshman season of the Netflix original.
From memory wipes to big revelations (to more memory wipes), there’s a never a dull moment with the only female member of the Knight’s of St. Christopher.
Devery Jacobs sat down with reporters at San Diego Comic-Con to talk about Lilith’s complexity, her inspiration for portraying the badass werewolf, and some questions The Order finale left in its wake.
When explaining Lilith, Jacobs explains that by season’s end there is a duality to her after the revelation that she’s not just a member of the Knights of St. Christopher.

“We found [she] was a former member of The Order. So [she] was both a magic practitioner and a werewolf that fights bad magic,” the actress explained. “So Lilith has a chip on her shoulder and something to prove, and is kind of a hyper feminist who is a badass, I would like to say.”
Jacobs pointed out that there were hints about Lilith’s erased memory in the ways she interacted with Jack, Alyssa, and when handling the Order business.
“Throughout [The Order] Season 1, Lilith always had an issue and a funny taste in her mouth around the order, and she wasn’t entirely sure why,” Jacobs said. “Until we found out that later on in the season that it was actually because she had been powdered before, that was she was a member, and that she was expelled for reasons we don’t know yet that we may find out in Season 2.”
However, even with Lilith’s tough exterior, the actress believes that the Knight has a soft side for those close to her.
“Even though Lilith can come across a little abrasive, I think at heart she has so much love for everybody in her life, for the Knights of St. Christopher, for Jack who she was originally reluctant to accept into the group. But I think Lilith is all heart. That is something I would like to see carried through into the next season.”

On the topic of inspiration, The Order actress says she was inspired by a few people and was even able to help form Lilith’s habits from the moment she auditioned.
“When I auditioned for Lilith, I was going through the scene, and it was the scene where she was trying to teach Jack how to transform into a werewolf. So it was just a straight-up thing; she was supposed to be bloodthirsty and intense and very aggressive,” she explained. “But I think she enjoys this much more than what was written on the audition page at the time and so instead I bought a bag of Doritos, ate the Doritos through the scene and they later added the chips to the scene later on.”
Jacobs shared that it was a goal of hers to kind of help show Lilith’s joy in being a werewolf.“I think finding the joy in those moments, because she can be so hard, was something I definitely wanted to infuse and show the cracks that she’s a wolf pup having so much fun.”
Though not much can be teased about the upcoming second season, considering production is underway on the Netflix series, Jacobs was able to tease a bit about a new romantic development for Lilith.
“I do know that heading into this season, Lilith does get caught in the middle of a love triangle.”

But with the werewolves getting powdered by the Order on The Order Season 1 finale, the Lilith/Randall romantic development gets put on the back burner, eliminating Randall as a possible member of said triangle… right?
That’s where Jacobs brought up more questions for fans to think on.
“That’s the whole question, right? We definitely had a thing for each other,” she said. “But happens when we get powdered? So, then what do we remember? How much do we remember? How much of our powerful wolf hides feed into either healing or intuition or even ringing when the magic happens, those are all questions that will be explored and answered throughout [the season].”
So, how exactly will the werewolves get their memory back? Thoughts on the love triangle set to brew next season?
The Order fans will have to wait until 2020 for these questions to be answered. However, it’s never too early to start with the theories!
